As part of today's Marvel's Avengers War Table event, Square Enix revealed a ton of content from the upcoming superhero game. New skins for the game's superheroes were revealed, a story trailer revealing some of the game's villains and conflict, and also a look at Marvel's Avengers' co-op gameplay. Perhaps most interesting, however, is an extended look at one of Marvel's Avengers' Hero Missions from its start through what looks to be its finish.

"Once An Avenger" is one of Marvel's Avengers' Hero Missions, a story-based mission in which players take on the role of a pre-selected Avenger. Marvel's Avengers' campaign is built out of a series of these missions, but not all Hero Missions are necessarily Campaign Missions. There are also many non-Campaign Missions for players to check out in addition to the story. But, for now, this is the mission that Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics decided to share.

The video footage for the mission runs a healthy eight minutes long. It starts from the mission select menu, where viewers can see that "Once An Avenger" is played as Thor, has a Mission Power requirement of 15, and is currently locked on Normal difficulty. Other difficulties assumedly unlock after the mission has been played. From there, the spoilers start.

After selecting the mission, the level begins with a cinematic establishing exactly is happening in the story at this point. It's years after "A-Day" when the Avengers' helicarrier crashed, destroying a large part of the city and taking Captain America with it. Now, it appears history is repeating itself as another helicarrier is in danger. The Avengers, who haven't fought together in years, are coming together once more to save the helicarrier and the city.

What follows is a ton of Thor action, showcasing the God of Thunder's various abilities. He's able to do ground slams, throw his hammer, call down lightning, and bludgeon enemies with his hammer, too. The enemies are AIM and they're trying to drill through the helicarrier with giant, violent machines. Thor, with the help of AI-controlled Avengers allies, has to take them down one by one.

Hopefully, the new Marvel's Avengers gameplay will give prospective buyers an idea of what the gameplay loop for the action game is, for better or worse. There's definitely more to come from Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics in the months to come.

Marvel's Avengers releases September 4, on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
