The PlayStation 5 version of Crystal Dynamics’ action role-playing superhero brawler Marvel’s Avengers launched on March 18, bringing with it the long-awaited Hawkeye DLC, a free Ms. Marvel outfit for all players, and a number of next-generation enhancements.

The increased power of the PS5 console allows for a range of improvements, including upgrades to ambient occlusion and anisotropic texturing, as well as higher resolution textures, breathing more life into the next-gen version of Marvel’s Avengers. The game on PS5 also features improved framerate and destruction physics, and makes full use of the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback of the PS5’s DualSense controller.

Despite these enhanced PS5 features, one of the changes to Marvel’s Avengers that players seem to be the most impressed with are the improvements to the game’s loading times. One of the top-rated posts on the PlayAvengers subreddit is a discussion around the topic: “I know that everyone is talking the Roadmap and Hawkeye, but seriously bro, I’m losing it over the PS5 load times bro.”

At the time of this writing, nearly 150 comments concur with the sentiment, with Marvel’s Avengers players praising the game’s faster loading times and the impressive power of the PS5. The person who began the discussion noted that the game would have loaded even faster had it been launched using the PS5’s Activity Cards.

Another player remarked that an option to view the Hero Showcase videos had been added to the character select screen in Marvel’s Avengers. These are the videos that normally played while the game was loading, but the much faster load times on the PS5 mean that there is no longer a loading screen. Thankfully, players who enjoyed these hero screens will still be able to view them whenever they wish.

When it launched in September 2020, Marvel’s Avengers had its share of bugs and a frequently voiced complaint was about the game’s load times. On the PS4 Pro, the game could take more than a minute and a half to load from game launch to the “Press X to Start” option, and an additional 40 seconds to load a Marvel’s Avengers saved game. Occasionally, gamers would even get stuck on the loading screen, requiring them to hard quit the game or play around with backup saves in order to get the game to load properly.

A video attached to the Reddit post shows the game loading on the PS5 in about 34 seconds, from launching on the PS5 home screen to actually playing the game. It’s little wonder, then, that the improved speed of the PS5 has impressed so many players. Owners of the Xbox Series X/S version have noticed similar performance upgrades.

Marvel's Avengers is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
