Marvels Avengers is still a little less than a month away from its official release date, but the game has three weekends of beta testing and some early access opportunities available starting tonight for some players. Consumers who are willing to pre-order select editions of the superhero team up game gain access to the closed beta this evening, but unlocking and pre-loading the experience can be a little tricky depending on where shoppers decided to purchase the upcoming Crystal Dynamics/Square Enix Marvel title.

Pre-ordering the game digitally through one of the platform stores is going to provide one of the smoothest experiences to unlocking and pre-loading the closed beta, but obviously some players are still going to want some of the awesome physical rewards or just a nice case to put on their shelves. For that experience, many shoppers are turning to Amazon, but the process of pre-loading the PS4 early beta this weekend can be a little tricky for players who go that route. Not to worry though, it's a simple process once players understand what they need to do.

For shoppers who purchase a physical edition that rewards the early access closed beta access, there are a handful of different systems they'll need to visit and multiple codes to redeem before the beta is safely installed on their PS4 or PS4 Pro. Let's run through how this should play out.

marvels avengers open beta confirmed

First, shoppers make the purchase on Amazon or whichever retailer they prefer that is offering an immediate redemption code opportunity. This is the easiest part. Just be sure that you have access to the email address associated with the Amazon account. This is very important. When the purchase concludes, you will not receive you beta code on the confirmation page or anything like that. Start checking your email.

The email from Amazon that contains the beta unlock key can take a few hours to arrive. Some players early on reported that the email took up to five days to arrive, but that was not our experience this week. Once the email arrives, players need to copy the code and head to the Square Enix login. Users can make a new account or login to an existing one if they already play Final Fantasy 14 or some other Square games. Once logged in, redeem the code. This is where things get a little silly...

At this point, players select which platform their pre-order is for. Select PlayStation if that's the case (especially if you want to play as Spider-Man...) and then you will be presented with yet another redemption code. Yes, there is a second code that is required. Players need to take this code and either redeem it on their console (this is the simpler option) or login to MyPlayStation and redeem it there. If the code is redeemed on the console itself, pre-loading the beta should be fairly straightforward from this point.

Players who decide to redeem the code on MyPlayStation since they are likely already on a browser window after visiting the Square Enix site just have once additional step to take. After the code has been successfully redeemed, head to your PS4 console. Going to the storefront and selecting the Marvels Avengers Beta will present users with an error message that says something like "You do not have access to this item because you have not pre-ordered Marvels Avengers." Do not panic. Instead of access the download through the storefront, users who redeemed a physical edition code need to visit their games library. From here, players should be able to locate the Marvels Avengers beta and begin the download. It's a little overly complicated, but that's all there is to it.

Continue to check back for updates and guides throughout the weekend as we work through the beta and power up our heroes.

Marvel's Avengers is set to release on September 4, 2020, for the PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. A PS5 and Xbox Series X version will be released at a later date.
