The future of Marvel’s Avengers remains unclear, and with players worried that the game’s support could be coming to an end soon, some are discussing planned content that they have not yet received. This includes Patrol mode, a promising addition to Marvel’s Avengers that disappeared without a trace.

Unlike the leaked Marvel’s Avengers characters She-Hulk and Captain Marvel, Patrol Mode was officially confirmed by Square Enix and announced by Crystal Dynamics. Teased alongside the Cosmic Cube Villain Sector and other major additions, the first post about this mode was made back on March 25, 2021. Over a year later, it has still not come to the game, and it is unclear if it will ever actually become a reality. Unsurprisingly, fans are venting their frustration and sharing their disappointment.

Redditors like the one that first posted about all the time that passed since the mode was revealed were confident it could “change the game for the better.” Indeed, this mode sounded promising, and it would have worked much like patrols in Destiny 2 - hence its name. Marvel’s Avengers players would patrol the Wasteland from the Future Imperfect DLC, completing small quests for survivors and earning unique rewards. They would be free to patrol for as long as they’d like, too, ending the mission when they felt like doing so.

The last players heard of Marvel’s Avengers’ Patrol Mode was that it was being delayed beyond the War for Wakanda expansion, with Crystal Dynamics’ comments that it needed more time to polish the mode being understandable. However, it has been several months since this update, and with players still waiting for Marvel’s Avengers’ next Roadmap, the concern is not surprising in the slightest. With nothing said for so long, there is a chance that the mode could have been quietly abandoned like the puzzle-focused Cloning Labs.

Hopefully, news on what comes next for Marvel’s Avengers is on the horizon, as many fans have been panicking following Embracer’s acquisition of Crystal Dynamics. Currently, fans are almost entirely in the dark, with Jane Foster’s upcoming debut being the only known content that is coming to the live service title. While there were some promising leaks about the game’s future, and Patrol mode could be an addictive new addition to the game if it ever actually comes, it is hard not to be a bit concerned about what happens next.

With many commenters shocked about how long it has been since Patrol Mode was first teased, and others quick to criticize Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics, the community’s feelings on this missing mode are clear. For now, all fans can do is hope that a new roadmap comes and that Patrol Mode is featured on it.

Marvel’s Avengers is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
