After the announcement that Marvel's Avengers would feature Spider-Man as a PS4 exclusive, many people are outraged to hear that there will be no exclusive characters for PC and Xbox players. Many have reasoned that if PlayStation players are getting their own exclusive character, it just doesn't make sense for other consoles to not get the same.

When a leak hinted that Spider-Man would only be available on PS4 for Marvel's Avengers, many people debunked the rumor only to have it confirmed the next day by developers. The news about Spider-Man's exclusivity is angering a lot of Marvel fans who prefer Xbox or PC, who feel that they're simply getting less content than PS4 users.

This led to a lot of speculation that PC and Xbox players might get their own exclusives, but Crystal Dynamics is shooting this down as revealed via a developers' conversation with Screen Rant, with studio head Scot Amos and designer Lauryn Ash agreeing that the devs have "no plans to introduce exclusive characters for the Xbox or PC versions." It does make sense from a design and development standpoint not to create three separate characters that would each show up in only one game, but it's not the news fans were hoping for.

Despite this news, or perhaps because of it, PS4 pre-orders of Marvel's Avengers are super high. Although this doesn't confirm whether the game will still be doing well when sales start after release, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics are benefiting from the current situation. PS4 players are coming out on top here, and so there doesn't seem to be any hesitation with purchasing the game.

Despite this disappointment, there will still be characters available after launch, like Hawkeye, who's coming for free after Marvel's Avengers comes out. Many fans were initially upset to see Hawkeye missing from the promo photos, but it's nice to know that they'll be able to download him for free soon enough. There are also more characters coming to the game post-launch that haven't even been announced yet, also planned to be free.

Aside from the huge bump in PS4 sales, Marvel's Avengers' fate is far from certain as early previews of the game have had mixed reviews. The cluttered inventory management screens, for example, are rubbing a lot of fans the wrong way. However, free post-launch characters are good news and it's at least good to know that the core Avengers team will be available to all players regardless of what platform they play on.

Marvel's Avengers releases September 4 on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X to follow.
