Since launch, one of the biggest issues with Marvel’s Avengers has been its lack of unique boss battles. Despite having the massive Marvel roster to work with, fans have only battled a handful of minor villains - though thankfully, the boss lineup in Marvel’s Avengers could soon be growing larger.

While this rumored addition may not be as game-changing as an iconic villain like Ultron or Thanos, it is still exciting. After all, gamers have spent an absurd amount of time battling Taskmaster and Abomination clones as well as giant AIM bots, so getting more fresh faces into the game is ideal. While the Scientist Supreme and Klaw fights were a step in the right direction, it seems like MODOK could be making a reappearance in the near future.

The main antagonist of Marvel’s Avengers’ well received campaign mode, MODOK was a solid final boss that helped end the game on a memorable note. Now, according to @mmmmmmmmiller, a source that correctly leaked a lot of information on the game - including Jane Foster Thor - a co-op version of the fight is coming. This should be reassuring for those that have stuck with Marvel’s Avengers, as many have been asking for a co-op variant of MODOK since the game launched.

While no details are provided as to when this boss will be added, it could be a while. Not only do Marvel’s Avengers updates come slowly, but the original boss fight was very clearly designed around a singleplayer style. This is because players are constantly switching between the entire roster of heroes to battle MODOK, with each phase crafted around a specific character’s moveset. As such, a co-op version of the MODOK fight is not as easy as porting the boss over, as it will need to be changed by Crystal Dynamics.

As for what this boss fight will look like, any guesses are purely speculation. Perhaps just one form of MODOK will be used, with the villain given more attacks in this form. A more interesting option could see the different phases of the boss retained, with each hero in the group sectioned off to battle MODOK one on one while the rest of the team takes on AIM bots. It will also be interesting to see how MODOK is brought back from a story perspective, too as he could either be a clone or the original.

While many fans are disappointed that a new Marvel’s Avengers roadmap has not yet been revealed, leaks like this are a good sign that new content is coming. While MODOK may be a reused asset, any kind of unique boss fight is a good addition to Marvel’s Avengers at this point.

Marvel’s Avengers is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
