Marvel's Avengers had a very strong start when it launched in early September. Since then, however, the conversation surrounding Marvel's Avengers has turned to its shrinking player numbers. Frustrations were compounded when Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics that the game's first DLC, the Kate Bishop Hawkeye Operation, had been delayed. At the time, a new release date had not been shared. But Crystal Dynamics has now confirmed a new release window for the DLC.

According to Crystal Dynamics studio head Scot Amos, the Kate Bishop DLC remains without a release date. However, Amos is now willing to confirm that Kate will be delivered to players before the end of 2020. That's likely not going to be reassuring to those still playing and enjoying Marvel's Avengers, with months still left in the year. But it at least reassures fans that Crystal Dynamics hasn't abandoned post-launch content plans like some more cynical fans had speculated.

Amos also makes clear that Crystal Dynamics still plans on delivering the same robust Kate Bishop DLC that was originally announced. It doesn't seem like any cuts have been made. That means that in addition to Kate Bishop unlocking as a playable character, replete with new gear and skins, there will be plenty of other playable content, too. That includes a new Marvel's Avengers storyline that can be played single-player or co-op, new cutscenes, new set pieces, and more.

Further, while it isn't the focus of Amos' comments, he does hint that Crystal Dynamics' post-launch plans remain intact. He mentions that as Crystal Dynamics continues to "introduce new heroes" that they'll deliver new character-specific gameplay, much like previous heroes. So while other DLC characters have fallen out of the conversation, Crystal Dynamics still has those characters in its plans and is considering them even now.

Regardless of Amos' comments, however, fans are likely to remain skeptical of Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix's dedication to the project. Prior to launch, fans were reassured that Marvel's Avengers would be supported for years into the future. But not only has the game's first DLC been delayed, Crystal Dynamics hasn't even released a post-launch roadmap for the future. Marvel's Avengers fans are worried.

Excitement for post-launch Marvel's Avengers was incredibly high before release. A leaked list of potential DLC characters more than 10 characters long, including Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, and Winter Soldier built up hopes for consistent content releases. It'll be quite the task for Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix to rebuild that excitement.

Marvel's Avengers is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
