Marvel’s Avengers is almost here. After all the buildup, teasing, and anger over Spider-Man’s PlayStation exclusivity, only two days remain before Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ take on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes finally drops. With all of the details that have been revealed, fans have a decent idea of what to expect from the game, and that includes how much game there actually is.

Plenty of players have gotten the chance to play through a sampling of what the game has to offer thanks to last month’s open beta weekends for Marvel’s Avengers. These provided a few campaign missions, War Zone challenges, and more to tackle as Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, and Ms. Marvel. There was enough variety of content that it has left fans wondering whether they effectively spoiled everything the full game has to offer. From the sound of it, probably not, because Marvel's Avengers is no small title.

How Long Is Marvel’s Avengers’ Campaign?

The main draw for many fans will no doubt be controlling the Avengers as they assemble to combat a global threat posed by MODOK and A.I.M. The game’s base story content alone will offer players plenty to fill up their time, according to Crystal Dynamics Senior Brand Director Richard Briggs, who stated last year that Marvel’s Avengers’ campaign takes around 10 to 12 hours.

This is an average that has been backed up this week by various publications with early access to the game, but it’s worth noting that this number applies to just the nineteen main campaign missions. If players want to experience everything Marvel’s Avengers will have at launch, like hero-specific side missions or co-op Drop Zone and War Zone missions (not to mention grinding for loot), they can expect something closer to 30+ hours in length.

Post-Launch Content

However, it’s hard to gauge how many hours of content the game will sport when all’s said and done. Being a live-service title, it’s already set to grow with a steady stream of free post-launch updates, which will include new heroes for Marvel’s Avengers like Kate Bishop that come with their own story missions, as well as new levels to take on and gear to unlock. This is in addition to common live-service features like daily missions designed to give players incentive to keep coming back between DLC drops.

Neither Square Enix nor Crystal Dynamics have provided a solid estimate of how much content they plan to add. All things considered, it’s safe to guess that players will have dozens of hours’ worth of new things to do over the game’s lifespan.

Marvel's Avengers launches September 4 for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions to follow.
