Marvel’s Avengers is approaching its launch day, and as such, the game’s promotional material has kicked into full gear. Today, an awesome new CGI trailer from Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts released for Avengers that sees the 6 launch heroes taking on AIM in a downtown area.

The trailer, while not offering any new gameplay clips, does do its job of getting fans excited to play as the massively popular superhero team. The CGI also shows another glimpse at MODOK in its final moments, looking much like the MODOK screenshot shared by the character’s voice actor a few weeks back. MODOK is set to be the main antagonist for the game at launch, though fans can expect plenty more villains in future content updates due to Marvel's Avengers following a “games as a service” model.

A datamined list of the many heroes and villains coming to Avengers post-launch recently leaked, and if it proves to be true, Marvel’s Avengers should be seeing plenty of support in the years to come. For launch, though, players will be playing through the main campaign using Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Ms. Marvel.

Captain America’s presence in the trailer is interesting, as Crystal Dynamics has been keeping up the facade that Cap’s demise in A-Day is legitimate. While fans have been quick to doubt that the team’s leader dies in the opening mission, this CGI trailer seems to confirm that he survives. This is unsurprising given that Cap has a full moveset in Marvel's Avengers and is placed at the forefront of the game’s marketing, but a bit more confirmation that he survives A-day should be reassuring to some fans.

The city backdrop in the trailer is interesting as well, as a final encounter with MODOK in either New York or San Francisco could be interesting. This could just be used for marketing, though the game’s beta and trailers have confirmed that city levels do exist within Marvel’s Avengers. The next War Table, which will show gameplay of a new post-launch hero, should also offer some more insights as to raids that would be perfect in settings like the CGI trailer’s city.

Marvel’s Avengers is almost here, so fans will not have to wait long to level up their favorite Avenger to help take down AIM. Soon after launch, Cap and friends will be joined by new heroes such as Hawkeye, meaning that this CGI trailer only offers a small glimpse at all the content the game will eventually contain.

Marvel’s Avengers will release September 4th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X upgrades will be free.
