Marvel’s Avengers fans have had a year full of ups and downs. Months went by without meaningful content, but then the excellent War for Wakanda expansion released and breathed new life into the game. Soon after, frustrating pay-to-win content was added to Marvel’s Avengers, though it was recently removed. Throughout, fun MCU skins and comic-inspired outfits have offered a beacon of hope, and many are hoping that the November 30 update could be a turning point for the game.

The next Marvel’s Avengers update will be bringing several requested features, such as an updated level cap and a redesigned cosmetic system. The first raid will also feature, and with Crystal Dynamics promising a brutal challenge that is harder than any mission players have done before, it will be interesting to see how players handle this difficulty spike. Most importantly of all, though, is that November 30 will finally be bringing the debut of Spider-Man.

The Spider-Man Hero Event

Marvel’s Avengers fans on PlayStation will be able to play as Spider-Man on November 30, with plenty interesting in how the wall-crawler will play. While it is unclear how his webbing will work or if traversal will feel right, fans do know that the character will be introduced in a different way than the game’s other post-launch heroes.

Spider-Man will be added alongside the “With Great Power” hero event. This is different from the Operations for Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, and Black Widow, as those characters brought new boss fights, locations, and story content along with them. When it comes to the PlayStation exclusive hero event, Spider-Man users will complete “unlockable challenges throughout the Avengers Initiative.” This makes it seem like there will be no new missions, with players instead completing challenges in the game’s current lineup of content. These tasks will likely be tied to certain abilities or mission types.

Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that Marvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man DLC has cutscenes, though how many there will be and when they appear remains to be seen. As for Peter’s story, he apparently stumbles upon an AIM plot that would see the company expanding its synthoid army. This version of the character will be friends with Ms. Marvel and Black Widow, though Crystal Dynamics has hinted that Peter being used to fighting on his own could see him splitting up from The Avengers and staying independent. This would be a way to explain why the character does not appear in future content and is only seen in the PlayStation version of the game.

Fans have gotten a brief look at Spider-Man in Marvel’s Avengers, and with November 30 not being far off, players can expect to see gameplay and some of the character’s suits next week. While Xbox and PC players will unfortunately not be able to play as the character, PlayStation fans have something truly exciting to look forward to at the end of the month.

Marvel’s Avengers' First Raid

Marvel Square Enix Crystal Dynamics patch 2.2

The Discordant Sound Raid will see Marvel’s Avengers players fighting the Black Panther villain Klaw, with a lengthy mission full of challenges preceding this boss battle. While it is unclear if the fight will be different from the one in War for Wakanda, where players simultaneously fought Klaw and Crossbones, it will surely be difficult. Players will supposedly “finish him off for good” in this mission, with the story picking up where War for Wakanda left off.

As for the mission’s setting, players will be fighting through Wakanda’s Vibranium Mound, a location that appeared briefly at the end of the War for Wakanda campaign. With players spending very little time in this area, its traps and terrain should still feel fresh, ensuring that the fight stands apart from others. If players want to complete this raid, they will likely need a full group of maxed out heroes and some solid coordination.

Marvel’s Avengers' November 30 Improvements

Captain America's latest skin in Marvel's Avengers pulls from Infinity War.

Several improvements will be made to the Marvel’s Avengers experience, with the first being an increased power level. While the previous cap was 150, players will now be able to reach 175, giving them a new goal to strive for when it comes to their gear. Though it will surely be nice to have stronger heroes, some may be worried about needing to farm for new gear. Thankfully, Crystal Dynamics has clearly planned for this situation.

Players will be able to upgrade maxed out gear in Marvel’s Avengers, recycling gear of higher power levels to improve older items. This allows players to stick with the gear they like, bringing their hard-earned items up to 175. While Crystal Dynamics has warned that there are “a few exceptions” to this process, players should be able to bring most items along with them on the journey to the new level cap. On top of this, players will be allowed to complete weekly objectives on every hero instead of just one, something that should make it easier to level up.

One of the most exciting things about the update is Shipments, which allow players to earn Marvel’s Avengers’ many cosmetics. With earnable cosmetics removed several months ago in favor of a new system, the rework is finally coming alongside Spider-Man and the Klaw Raid. Players will be able to purchase a shipment for 500 units, an in-game currency that players have likely built up a lot of. Players have a small chance to get an exclusive, premium skin each time they open a shipment, but if they open 100, they will automatically get the skin. This means that players will eventually get the cosmetic if they put in enough playtime, which is a nice gesture.

While this update may not be enough to save Marvel’s Avengers, it should still prove exciting - especially for PlayStation fans. With Spider-Man set to be in the hands of PS4 and PS5 users very soon, the amount of content inside the game is continuing to grow. Hopefully, 2022 will bring even more exciting things to the game, giving players more enemy types to fight and locations to fight them in. For now, though, a difficult new mission in Wakanda and some earnable cosmetics to collect should be enough to attract some lapsed fans and new players.

Marvel’s Avengers is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
