The Marvel's Avengers beta only allows players to use four out of the six characters that will be available when the game launches, those being Iron Man, Black Widow, Ms. Marvel, and the Hulk. However, players have discovered a new glitch that allows them to play the two missing characters of Thor and Captain America.

Those who have managed to pull off the glitch have started posting gameplay footage of the Thor and Captain America online. One particular video, uploaded by YouTuber TonyBingGaming, takes a look at Captain America and breaks down everything he can do in the beta. It's worth noting that because this is a beta version of Captain America, anything seen may be subject to change come Marvel's Avengers' actual release, though, it's unlikely any changes will make the character drastically different.

This Captain America showcase video reveals the character's entire skill tree, some of his skins, and even his challenge card. The whole thing lasts a little over 13 minutes, so here are the timestamps for anyone who wants to skip to certain sections:

  • Captain America Gameplay — 0:00-4:40
  • Captain America Skill Trees — 4:40
  • Captain America Skins / Challenge Card— 12:44

Captain America plays like you would expect him to — hard hits combined with a few acrobatics and plenty of shield throwing. Like other characters, some of the names of his attacks reflect both who he is as Steve Rodgers and Captain America, with titles such as "Brooklyn Brawler" and "Eagle's Talon." His "Rally Cry" essentially pays tribute to the infamous "Avengers Assemble" catchphrase.

The weird floating ability that Captain America does throughout the four minutes of gameplay is an Iron Man animation, and not something Cap can do inherently. Again, playing as Cap in the Marvel's Avengers beta requires players to glitch the game. Doing so replaces Iron Man with Captain America, giving the First Avenger some of the Armored Avenger's abilities.

Marvel's Avengers' Challenge Cards took inspiration from the same Season Pass format one would find in games like Call of Duty: Warzone and Destiny 2. The player unlocks new items as they "level up" in the game. The video shows Captain America's challenge card up to level 40, and it looks like players will be able to unlock up to seven skins within that time, all for free.

The glitch to play as Captain America triggered when dataminers got into the game's code. This same method has led to the possible discovery of over 15 unannounced Marvel's Avengers characters. Crystal Dynamics certainly didn't plan for this, but it's unclear if it will do anything about it.

Marvel's Avengers launches September 4, 2020, for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions releasing later.
