Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order got its first major expansion today, and it is called Curse of the Vampire. This paid DLC adds four additional characters to the lineup of Marvel heroes in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, but there's also a free component to the update that brings a sizable chunk of new content to the game all on its own.

To start, the free portion of the update adds four new Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 iconic costumes that can be worn by characters already in the game. Specifically, Captain America got his Super Soldier uniform, Black Panther received his Thrice-Blessed Armor, Thor now has his Ultimate Marvel look, and Iron Man got his Extremis Armor.

To note, this is the second free costume update that Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 has received since it released in July. The first one included Hulk's Planet Hulk gladiator design, Captain Marvel's Ms. Marvel suit, and Spider-Man's symbiote costume.

Along with everything else introduced in today's Curse of the Vampire update, these three costumes also received alternative colors, which players can grab from the SHIELD depot storefront using the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 in-game currency that can be earned while playing. The alternate Ms. Marvel suit is all-white, Hulk's can become gladiator Red Hulk, and the symbiote costume can get a red and gold color upgrade.

Beyond additional costumes, the free component of the update also increases the level cap to 150, adds new upgrades to unlock on the alliance skill tree, and adds Nightmare mode. This mode pits players against random enemies infected by a vampiric curse, which can revives them, with new and deadly powers, even after being defeated.

All in all, that's quite a lot of new content for Ultimate Alliance 3, especially considering that so much of it is free for players. Essentially, everything except the four Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 Curse of the Vampire characters and the new Gauntlet mode is available to everyone, ensuring that even players who don't have the money for DLC can shake things up in their games.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is available now exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
