THQ Announces 'Marvel Super Hero Squad: The Infinity Gauntlet'

THQ has announced Marvel Super Hero Squad: The Infinity Gauntlet, a sequel to the first Marvel Super Hero Squad video game released in 2009. The game will tie into the second season of the Cartoon Network television series.

The game will featured three modes: Story Mode, Freeplay Mode, and Challenge Mode. Gamers will also be able to "Hero Up" with cooperative play and each of the Marvel superheroes will have unique "Factor Powers" that can be mastered. A new puzzle component has been added to the franchise to increase the challenge. Players will need the heroes powers and abilities to move or destroy objects and travel across certain environments.

Marvel Super Hero Squad: The Infinity Gauntlet storyline has the players battling Doctor Doom and his Lethal Legion, in search of the six Infinity Stones. It is assumed a not-as-threatening version of Thanos will play a roll in the game. The original comic book storyline debuted in 1991 and pertained to the Marvel superhero community attempting to stop Thanos' reign of terror with the Infinity Gauntlet. Of course, this game won't be a rigid adaptation. However, it will pull from elements of the source material.

Martin Good, Executive Vice President of Kids, Family, Casual Games, and Global Online Services, talked about the future release.

"We are excited to announce the next game in our Marvel Super Hero Squad franchise to an eager fan base. The new co-op Challenge Mode, super-powered action-combat and integrated puzzles truly elevate the series and further broaden the audience."

Marvel and THQ are hoping to capitalize on the popularity of the toys and the show through this franchise. Drawing children into the Marvel Universe through altered versions of established heroes, villians, and storylines, The Infinity Gauntlet hopes to be a must-have for kids across the world.

Marvel Super Hero Squad: The Infinity Gauntlet will be released on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and Nintendo DS. No release date has been confirmed yet.
