Following the highly-anticipated release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the current direction of New York's favorite superhero is wide open. Sony and Marvel already have lots in store for the Spider-Man universe, starting with Morbius. Casting is already underway for films focusing on Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web.

The Spider-Man franchise is chock-full of interesting villains who have yet to make their live-action debut. While some have made appearances in animated adaptations or video games, most of these characters have yet to face Spidey outside the comics. These ten hopefully will make their way to the big or small screen in the future.

10 Mephisto

Hardcore Marvel fans will remember rumors of Mephisto appearing in the Disney+ show WandaVision. However, this didn't pan out, leaving room for Mephisto to make his first appearance elsewhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Named after Faustian legends, Mephisto is essentially Marvel's interpretation of the devil.

Mephisto debuted as an enemy of Silver Surfer but has crossed paths with Spider-Man. These encounters involved Peter Parker making a literal deal with the devil in order to rescue Aunt May while erasing his identity from the world. In fact, this seems awfully familiar to Peter's interactions with Doctor Strange in No Way Home...

9 Silver Sable

Once upon a time, Sony had bigger plans for introducing Silver Sable into their Spider-Man film universe. However, those plans have since been canceled, leaving the character open to be introduced in future films. Born the daughter of a Nazi hunter, the character has served as both an enemy and as an ally to Peter Parker.

Silver Sable has no powers but is a master of martial arts and weapons combat. She's even defeated the Punisher in combat, which means her live-action appearance could result in the return of John Bernthal's Frank Castle. There's even been fan support for actresses like Alicia Vikander or Mila Kunis to take on the role.

8 Black Tarantula

Venom currently serves as the anti-Spider-Man in the Sony universe, but more characters occupy a similar space. One of them is Carlos LaMuerto, a.k.a the Black Tarantula. This character is a mix between Spider-Man and Wolverine, combining Spidey's agility with Logan's healing factor, with bonus eye lasers.

Black Tarantula makes his footprint in New York's criminal underworld following the absence of Wilson Fisk, whose fate is left unknown in 2021's Hawkeye series. The character also crosses paths with Matt Murdock, who appears in No Way Home. Black Tarantula can be a good excuse for Daredevil and Spider-Man to team up once again.

7 Wraith

Yuri Watanabe's Wraith standing in front of a green smoke cloud

Many characters have taken on the mantle of Wraith, but none have been as interesting as Yuri Watanabe. While some versions of Wraith have possessed psychic powers, Yuri would have a more grounded tie to the MCU Spider-Man. Her suit was created using stolen equipment from villains such as Mysterio and Chameleon.

Since Mysterio already debuted in Spider-Man: Far From Home, it's possible Yuri Watanabe could appear soon as an enemy of Peter Parker. It would also be interesting to see how Marvel and Sony reinterpret her powers like they did Mysterio. Perhaps she's a faux villain using Quentin Beck's illusion technology?

6 The Hobgoblin

The MCU has already used Norman Osbourne/Green Goblin by re-introducing Willem Dafoe. Therefore, the Hobgoblin could be a good chance to pit Spidey against a copycat of his most iconic archenemy. However, there are many interpretations of the Hobgoblin from the comics to choose from.

Many fans expected Peter's best friend in the films, Ned Leeds, to take on the mantle of Hobgoblin. However, this didn't seem to pan out, and Ned's arc in the MCU appears to be complete. Perhaps Marvel or Sony will introduce Roderick Kingsley, a fashion designer who steals Osbourne's Green Goblin formula, becoming Hobgoblin.

5 Mr. Negative

Mr. Negative is one of Spider-Man's most interesting villains, due to the vague knowledge of his origin. At one point, the teenager who went by "Martin Li" was given superpowers thanks to a drug called "D-Lite", turning him into Mr. Negative. The character's origins are also closely tied to Cloak and Dagger.

While it'd be exciting to see Mr. Negative in live-action, doing so would take a bit of explanation. Thanks to D-Lite, Mr. Negative's powers let him control the Darkforce and Lightforce, manifesting that power into shapeshifting, property corruption, and mind control. He would definitely prove to be a powerful foe to Peter Parker.

4 Chameleon

The Chameleon is one of Spider-Man's most iconic enemies, similar in abilities to Mysterio. As his name suggests, Chameleon is a master of disguise, being able to take on the appearance of any person at will. He often uses this in the comics to masquerade as other iconic Marvel heroes and villains.

While Chameleon has been part of the Sinister Six, it may be best for him to face Peter Parker solo. The MCU's Spider-Man is quite vulnerable, leaving room for Chameleon to attack his emotional weaknesses. It could also be an opportunity to see some fun cameos thanks to Chameleon's powers, such as Tony Stark or MJ.

3 Black Cat

Rumors of Black Cat's introduction into the shared Marvel and Sony cinematic universe have been circling since No Way Home's release. Now that Peter Parker has no romantic prospects, introducing Marvel's version of Catwoman would be fun to watch. Black Cat is also a window to a more adult side of Peter Parker in the MCU.

Fan castings and rumors have placed Queen's Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy as the front runner for playing Felicia Hardy. She's also closely tied with Silver Sable, meaning the two could feasibly team up against Peter Parker. At the end of the day, it'd be exciting to see Spider-Man take on another villain who toys with his emotions.

2 Prowler

Donald Glover as Aaron Davis in Homecoming; the Prowler climbing a building in the comics

The seeds of Prowler's introduction are already in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character of Aaron Davis appears in Spider-Man: Homecoming, played by Donald Glover (who was once a popular fan casting for Peter Parker). Aaron Davis also appears in Into The Spider-Verse as the uncle of Miles Morales.

Naturally, it seems as if Marvel is patiently waiting to use more Donald Glover, so they introduce audiences to a live-action Miles Morales. Getting to see that character introduced while fighting his own uncle would be quite an emotional start for Morales. Also, Lucasfilm can attest that it's never a bad idea to use more Donald Glover.

1 Scorpion

Homecoming also sets the stage for Scorpion to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mac Gargan appears in the film, played by Better Call Saul star Michael Mando. The character also appears in one of the film's post-credits scenes alongside Michael Keaton's Vulture, who is set to re-appear in the upcoming Sony film Morbius.

Since Mac Gargan's grudge against Spider-Man is already set in motion, it shouldn't be long before the two meet on the big screen. Scorpion could also serve as a breath of fresh air for the MCU, as a smaller villain who could attack Peter on a more personal level. Fans may get tired of Avengers-level threats in every Spider-Man film.
