Since She-Hulk is currently in the works at Marvel Studios, now is the perfect time to get familiar with the characters before the show’s release. The series will introduce Marvel comics supervillain, Titania, who is best known for her strong will, her strong build, and her never-ending conflict with She-Hulk.

The series already has a pretty impressive cast list lined up, including Jameela Jamil, who has starred in shows like the NBC sitcom The Good Place. She also voiced the character of Eris in the DC-inspired Harley Quinn series streaming on HBO Max. Jamil will now be taking on the role of Titania in She-Hulk, as Marvel finally brings this villain's complex history to life in the MCU.

The Original Titania

The original Titania was named Davida DeVito, who first appeared in Marvel Comics in July of 1984. DeVito was the leader of a professional wrestling group comprised of all women, who called themselves the Grapplers. Titania and her crew were eventually hired to derail an ongoing government operation known as Project: P.E.G.A.S.U.S., which has already been introduced to the MCU. Captain Marvel, Captain America: The First Avenger, and the original Avengers movie all made references to Project: P.E.G.A.S.U.S., meaning this organization has been crucial to the development of the MCU since the early stages of Phase 1.

In the comics, Titania’s mission to destroy Project: P.E.G.A.S.U.S. was a bust and she was shipped off to prison shortly after. Once Titania was released, the Power Broker (AKA Sharon Carter in the MCU) transformed Titania into a superhuman by experimenting on her. Eventually, Davida DeVito was killed by the Golddigger.

The New Titania

Mary MacPherran was a young high school girl who dreamed of having superpowers and showing bullies how powerful she could be. After the death of DeVito, MacPherran was transformed into the new and current Titania. MacPherran was able to live her dream and become the superhumanly-charged Titania, thanks to the efforts of Doctor Doom. Doctor Doom convinced the new Titania to work with him and a litany of other villains during the Secret War, which is what subsequently kick-started her infamous feud with She-Hulk.

Powers

Titania received a number of powerful abilities from her time with Doctor Doom. She has superhuman strength very similar to that of She-Hulk. Titania also possesses unparalleled stamina that allows her to fight her enemies for hours on end without tiring. Titania is unaffected by extreme temperature, meaning she can survive unscathed in almost any climate. She can also withstand being shot by bullets, just like Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in the MCU. To summarize, Titania is virtually invincible.

She-Hulk VS Titania

Given how powerful Titania is, it’s incredibly rare for her to come across a hero that evenly matches her in strength. A large part of the reason why Titania constantly duked it out with She-Hulk is because She-Hulk is one of the only people on the planet who is as strong as (or maybe even stronger than) Titania.

Based on the fact that Titania never encountered someone as strong as her before and had a tendency to underestimate her opponents, she lost her first battle against She-Hulk. She then became obsessed with proving she was the stronger woman, which resulted in the two of them crossing paths quite frequently. Despite all her additional training, Titania still struggled to get the better of She-Hulk in combat.

The MCU frequently changes the details of their characters’ backstories, so it is entirely possible that their rivalry with each other in the She-Hulk series will look much different than it does in the comics. Phase 4 seems to be focusing heavily on creating character depth and working with more intense thematic elements, so perhaps their conflict with each other will be rooted in something much more series than who is stronger than who.

Other Affiliations And Potential MCU Appearances

Titania has connections to a lot of other well-known MCU characters in the Marvel comics. She’s appeared in the Fantastic Four comics, battled it out with Spider-Man, and partnered up with the Abomination, who has also been added to the She-Hulk cast list.

For a while, Titania joined forces with Baron Zemo to fight the Avengers. Now that Zemo is free, thanks to Sam and Bucky in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Marvel might be preparing fans for a Titania/Zemo teamup in future MCU projects. It’s no secret that Marvel likes to plant easter eggs and hidden messages throughout their projects, so perhaps Titania will also have some face time with Sharon Carter, as a way to acknowledge the original Titania’s relationship with the Power Broker.

Titania even worked with Jane Foster when she became chronically ill, and Jane was able to save her life. Unsurprisingly, Titania stuck to her villainous ways after being healed by Jane, so the two of them eventually turned against each other in the comics. Their fight went down after Jane became Lady Thor, so there's definitely a chance that Jane and Titania will throw down during Thor: Love and Thunder after Jane learns how to wield Mjolnir.

She-Hulk premieres on Disney Plus in 2022.
