Nick Fury returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his centric series. Samuel L. Jackson has been a staple in the MCU, ever since the first Iron Man movie. Many fans are excited to see more of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, especially now that he gets his dedicated screentime in Secret Invasion, a Disney Plus series and televised crossover event in the Marvel Studios library.

Like most Marvel movies and shows, there are plenty of easter eggs for die-hard fans, and fans pause and observe every frame and line of dialogue.

8 Rhodey Returns

The appearance of James “Rhodey” Rhodes in the Secret Invasion trailer is a welcome surprise and marks the 10th appearance from the character and the 9th from the actor Don Cheadle. Rhodey has cemented himself as an important character in the MCU and is instantly recognizable thanks to what Don Cheadle brings to the character. The ride isn’t over for Rhodey yet, as he is also set to appear in Disney Plus’ MCU series, Armor Wars.

Rhodey is seen in the trailer meeting with Nick Fury. It is unknown just how much Rhodey knows of Nick Fury’s comings and goings, but considering the character is high-classed military personnel, and rather intelligent, it may be an exchange of information for a long-standing ally. Hopefully, Rhodey has a few scenes in Secret Invasion and dons his iconic armor as War Machine.

7 Lack Of Eyepatch

nick fury not wearing his signature eyepatch

In the trailer for Secret Invasion, Nick Fury is looking extremely rugged. The character looks outright homeless. Many scenes in the trailer do away with the cool leather jacket of the S.H.I.E.L.D. director, as well as the famed eyepatch that covers his missing eye caused by a scratch from the unpredictable Flerken, Goose the cat, in Captain Marvel.

Nick Fury’s lack of eyepatch may indicate something more cunning than just a costume change. Since Skrulls are known to replicate the identities of anyone, perhaps Nick Fury is outsmarting them by not wearing an eyepatch, as his scar may be too intricate to detail, or it’s a way of letting his allies know that he is the real Nick Fury.

6 Everett K. Ross

Audiences briefly get a glimpse of Martin Freeman’s MCU return as Everett K. Ross. This character may not have any speaking lines in the trailer, but hopefully, audiences will see more of him in the series soon to come. Ross is an agent for the CIA, and worked closely with the people of Wakanda to help defeat Eric Killmonger’s forces, and put T’Challa back onto the throne of Wakanda, and regain the mantle of the Black Panther. Here, Ross may have developed a good standing with the people of Wakanda, and audiences will find out these bonds in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Considering that Everett K. Ross is a great agent in the United States, and has great standing with Wakanda, it may appear that the Skrulls are trying to find him to kidnap him so that they can disguise themselves as the only Everett K. Ross, and infiltrate Wakanda and the United States government.

5 Maria Hill

Another character that appears in the trailer is the return of Maria Hill. This character is often seen with Nick Fury, in the Avengers films, and Spider-Man: Far From Home. She’s tough-minded, and by the book, and certainly has no time for Nick Fury’s secrecy in Secret Invasion. She is annoyed with the real Nick Fury and expresses her annoyance to him in person.

Maria Hill’s fate is unknown after Spider-Man: Far From Home, but audiences are expecting to see the character team up with Nick Fury once again for some awesome spy action and espionage. They’re a great duo, and Maria Hill is due for her spotlight very soon.

4 Department Of Damage Control

Under the acronym of DODC, the United States Department of Damage Control has appeared in a few more recent entries into the MCU. From Spider-Man: Homecoming, to Spider-Man: No Way Home, and featuring heavily in the Disney Plus shows of Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, the DODC is set to return for Secret Invasion, as seen in the trailer.

As of 2024, after Thanos’ snap was reversed, the Department of Damage Control has become a federal law enforcement agency. The DODC is now tasked with apprehending super-powered individuals and sealing dangerous and alien artifacts. Their involvement in Secret Invasion may stir trouble for both sides.

3 Trouble With Talos

Audiences may spot Ben Mendelsohn once again in the MCU thanks to the Secret Invasion trailer. This actor played Talos, a Skrull who is helping Nick Fury back on Earth. Talos was tasked with mentoring Spider-Man in Far From Home, but with Nick Fury set to return to Earth, it seems as if Talos has a new mission, that which currently remains unknown.

This character is a lot of fun and made his first appearance in Captain Marvel. Although the scene we see this character on seems rather fated for ill will and danger, hopefully, Talos makes it out okay, and the MCU gets to keep a friendly green face in the Marvel Universe.

2 Emilia Clarke’s Character

There is a lot of speculation regarding the secrecy behind Emilia Clarke’s character in Secret Invasion. She’s a prolific actor, with a lot of credits. Most notably, Emilia Clarke played Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s Game of Thrones. To see an actor with such talent and success bless the Marvel Universe is a delight, and hopefully, Emilia Clarke’s character is not wasted.

There are plenty of exciting rumors and speculation about who Emilia Clarke’s character is. However, audiences see her wielding a pistol and entering a secret room. Perhaps she is an agent, or perhaps she is something more, like the Skrull queen, Veranke.

1 President Skrull?

Dermot Mulroney and Diana Silvers in Blumhouse Into The Dark episode called "Flesh and Blood"

During the events of the trailer, a helicopter launches missiles at a bunch of black vehicles. One vehicle was the presidential motorcade that houses the United States president. Audiences may be able to spot this in the brief moments, and keen-eyed fans will recognize the actor Dermot Mulroney as the new MCU U.S. President.

In the comics of Secret Invasion, it is revealed that presidents like Barrack Obama were Skrulls, and showed just how deep the Skrulls had found themselves into the world’s governments. Perhaps this attack on the president is to replace him with a Skrull, or something darker.
