Marvel's Spider-Man gave players a strong story that provided a fresh take on the wall-crawler while maintaining the charm of what has made him so popular for so long. The team at Insomniac showed great care when crafting the world of Earth-1048, and a lot has been set up for a potential sequel. Part of that setup came in the form of supporting characters from all across the comics, from signature villains like Electro and Rhino, to lesser known characters such as Screwball. A handful of key locations from the comics also made appearances, like Avengers Tower and The Raft.
All of these characters and locations gave Marvel's Spider-Man a fleshed-out world that wasn't isolated from other Marvel properties, and it was better for it. Spider-Man is great on his own, but part of his charm is getting to see him interact with all kinds of other heroes. With all of the setup that Marvel's Spider-Man did in establishing different characters in Earth-1048, it gives the highly-anticipated sequel a lot of potential to give other Marvel heroes some kind of cameo. Whether they make a short appearance in a cutscene or prove to be an integral part of the story, it would be exciting to see some familiar faces in Spider-Man 2.
Iron Man In Spider-Man 2
Perhaps one of the most exciting characters that could cameo in Spider-Man 2 would be Iron Man. The name of Tony Stark is enough to turn the heads of a lot of fans thanks to his portrayal in the MCU, and the same star power could be brought to Insomniac's sequel. There is already some precedence for this considering that Avengers Tower is present in Spider-Man's New York City, and he could provide major support to Spidey during his adventures. Peter Parker also lost a major mentor in the form of Otto Octavius after the events of the first game, and Stark could step in to take his place and possibly suit up as Iron Man to assist in battle.
Daredevil In Spider-Man 2
When considering some of Spider-Man's most loyal allies, Daredevil is routinely one character that can be found in the mix. The friendship between Spider-Man and Daredevil is one of the most fun in the comics, and translating that into Insomniac's storytelling could be a blast for players. Similar to Iron Man, there's also some precedence for a Daredevil cameo because of the appearance of Matt Murdock's law firm, Nelson and Murdock. With how few video game appearances Daredevil has made over the years, a cameo in a big AAA game would surely give some of his fans a smile.
Doctor Strange In Spider-Man 2
Of all the Marvel heroes that could really shake things up for Spider-Man 2, there are few candidates that would be better than Doctor Strange. The Sorcerer Supreme's Sanctum Sanctorum already made an appearance in Marvel's Spider-Man, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to bring him into the next game. From a gameplay perspective, he could give Spider-Man 2 a whole new mechanic by introducing portals similar to Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. These portals could help make traversal and combat the most dynamic in a Spider-Man game, and give Doctor Strange some much needed AAA game coverage along with Daredevil.
With Spider-Man: Miles Morales so close in the rearview mirror for Insomniac, fans looking forward to a full sequel will likely have to exercise some patience. Whenever the Spider-Man sequel does come out, it will likely be even more impressive than the first thanks to the power of the PS5. Hopefully that extra power will mean Spider-Man 2 will feature more Marvel heroes, and some impressive set pieces to go along with them. Insomniac already showed their prowess with the first Spider-Man, so hopes are certainly high for the next.
