Except for the well-known, non-powered Marvel superheroes, such as Iron Man and Hawkeye, most iconic Marvel heroes have traditional powers, such as super strength, speed, or reflexes. Sometimes, they add flying into the mix (Captain Marvel) or even superfast healing (Wolverine). However, not all comic book characters possess these mainstream powers.

Marvel has created hundreds of powered characters over the years, so it makes sense that some of them possess unusual, even bizarre powers. These aren't often as variable as the more usual powers, or they can even look ridiculous in certain cases. The Marvel comic characters with the weirdest powers might not be A-listers, but they certainly stick in the fans' memory.

5 Big Bertha

Big Bertha Marvel

Every Marvel fan knows the Avengers. Aside from the main team though, there are several other superhero teams that use the word Avengers, and not all of them are so great. The Great Lakes Avengers especially are a team focused primarily on outsiders and D-list heroes. Big Bertha is one of the most controversial members of the team. In her civil life, she's a model Ashley Crawford but when she wants to or has to, she can transform into a very obese woman, which didn't sit well with some readers. Especially because other characters make fun of Big Bertha because of her appearance.

The good news here is that Big Bertha is incredibly strong and can easily squash a lot of her opponents. And, since she looks different in her civil life, her superhero identity is a well-protected secret, unlike other superheroes, who out themselves to the public and then regret it (such as Spider-Man during the Civil War storyline). Still, there are a lot of Marvel heroes who are super strong without the need to transform in such a way, which makes Ashley's power one of the strangest ones.

4 Doorman

Doorman Marvel

Big Bertha isn't the only member of the Great Lakes Avengers team who has strange powers. Doorman makes for an even more bizarre case. His most obvious power is that he can teleport through a solid wall.

While that might sound impressive, Doorman chooses to demonstrate this power when there's a perfectly functional door next to him, rendering the point a bit moot. Doorman's transportation powers don't work over long distances, unlike Nightcrawler's, for example, and teleporting via a wall when there's a door available just seems like a waste of time.

3 Eye-Scream

Eye-Scream Marvel

Eye-Scream is a character that proves two things. One, villains can have strange powers too, not just heroes. And two, Marvel Comics sure loves their puns! Eye-Scream doesn't have eyes that would scream at his enemies. Instead, he can turn himself into any flavor of ice cream. Basically, he melts into an ice cream, which can look quite bizarre, perhaps even disgusting to anybody who witnesses it. Eye-Scream has used his unique power in the past in order to escape his opponents.

Even though it can work, it's not the best getaway method a villain could choose, especially when the fans compare it to the likes of flying and turning invisible, to name just two more traditional ways of escaping. The worst thing that could subsequently happen to Eye-Scream because of his power would be if someone tried to eat him.

2 Maggott

Marvel Maggott

The X-Men had multiple members whose powers defied the superhero standard. However, Maggott is one of the strangest ones. As his superhero moniker suggests, Maggott has sentient creatures inside his body that can burst out of his torso and quickly eat whatever is in their way thanks to their enzyme. When they do so, Maggott receives the energy and can use it to increase his strength as well as stamina. It's one of the weirdest ways that a Marvel comic book character achieves superhero strength.

Maggott's power is enough to stun his opponents, especially if there's an element of surprise at play. When he's using the power, it's not pleasing to look at, but it is effective nonetheless. Maggott never became one of the A-list X-Men and most movie superhero fans aren't familiar with him, but he packs considerable power despite his more obscure status.

1 Zeitgeist

Zeitgeist Marvel

Some of the weirdest Marvel characters' powers can be quite disgusting for everyone else, maybe except for the character themself. Zeitgeist is a good example. His power is vomiting acid. That led to a catastrophe in his life when he vomited on his partner and injured her this way. Zeitgeist later went on to become a member of the team X-Force. Unlike other obscure Marvel heroes, Zeitgeist has already premiered in a live-action movie, although he didn't have a big part in it and is unlikely to return.

The fans could have seen Zeitgeist in Deadpool 2 (2018), where he was portrayed by Bill Skarsgård. Zeitgeist's power ensures that he'll never be the life of a party. Simply because it would be too dangerous for other people to be around him when he's cheerful and drunk. While acid can be useful in combat, the fact that Zeitgeist has to vomit it (as opposed to spitting it out, for example), puts him at a huge disadvantage.
