Marvel’s Avengers fans have finally gotten some more insight into the game’s War for Wakanda expansion, as a fresh trailer was shown at Square Enix’s E3 conference. While it showed off some impressive cutscenes for the game as well as some MCU-inspired designs for Klaw and T’Challa’s allies, there was little else to see in this trailer. Given just how long gamers waited to see more, it is hard not to see the footage as a bit of a letdown.

Those that have stuck with Marvel’s Avengers have been wanting to see the game make a comeback, with many holding onto the hope that War for Wakanda will revive the game. Unfortunately, the trailer does not clarify if this is going to be happening, as fans still know remarkably little about what the DLC will be doing differently. With the trailer only showing cinematics, gamers are left wondering how much War for Wakanda will improve the game or when it will even come. With so little being shown, fans may have some reasons to be concerned about the content.

The Lack Of Gameplay In Marvel’s Avengers’ War For Wakanda Trailer

More than anything else, the War for Wakanda DLC needs to make some improvements to the replayability of Marvel’s Avengers. This means more boss fights, more regular enemies, and fresh mission types. While this trailer promises a few of these, as some new spiders are shown as well as a massive version of Klaw, it is unclear how differently they will play from the usual fight. If some spiders are the only thing added to the usual lineup of AIM bots, the DLC will not be doing enough to change the pool of enemies. Likewise, one fight with Klaw is not enough, especially if he turns out to be as similar to the Kree Sentinel from the main story as he appears to be.

Beyond this, players do not actually get to see T’Challa in action, as the King of Wakanda is left to show his fighting prowess in cutscenes. While he certainly looks cool in the footage, those hoping to get an idea of Black Panther’s abilities are left in the dark. While he shoes some basic punches and kicks, as well as the kinetic energy ability from the MCU, fans are left guessing as to what he will play like. With this in mind, fans may be let down by just how little this trailer showed when it comes to the king’s moveset. With no gameplay shown or details provided, this is essentially just a second teaser trailer for the DLC.

Without gameplay or a deep dive from Crystal Dynamics, fans do not get to see if any improvements are being made to the game’s missions. Many have grown tired of the repetitive level structure seen in the current version of the game, and in turn are hoping that new objectives will feature in the expansion. Unfortunately, this trailer does not make this clear. The same can be said for the new power levels, which are different from Marvel’s Avengers’ Champion System. Rumored to be giving each hero new abilities thanks to the raised cap, fans were hoping to see how the DLC would improve their hero builds. Once again, though, this was not shown. Gear changes, Omega Level Threat missions, and other in development content was also kept hidden away.

No Release Date In Marvel’s Avengers’ War For Wakanda Trailer

Avengers E3 2021

Given the consistency with Marvel’s Avengers’ roadmap releases thus far, it seemed likely that the DLC would have its precise launch date revealed at the end of this trailer. After all, there is no grander stage than E3, making it a great time to tell gamers exactly when they should be loading up their saves to experience the content. Unfortunately, there is no date given as the trailer comes to a close, leaving fans in the dark as to when exactly War for Wakanda will become available.

This is a bit disappointing, as it seems that Crystal Dynamics is unsure of when exactly the content will release. Further, with the developer having delayed Kate Bishop’s DLC in the past, this lack of a specific date seemingly allows for a similar situation to play out with War for Wakanda. In the trailer’s description, the month of August is highlighted as the release window for the DLC, giving fans some hope that it will still come on schedule. Still, with so little shown, it is hard not to worry about a potential delay for the project.

A delay for War for Wakanda would be devastating, as fans have been desperate for a major content drop. While the Cosmic Cube Villain Sector and the Wasteland Patrol Mode are fine additions, neither is enough to bring back the game. As such, a lot is riding on the Black Panther content, with many viewing it as Marvel’s Avengers’ last chance. If it does hit the planned August window, then the game is in a good position going forward. If it does not, though, fans have reason to be concerned. With interest in the game quickly fading due to projects like Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, it is important that this DLC arrives soon. With Spider-Man also not coming until this expansion has released, a precise date would have certainly helped fans get more excited.

What This Trailer’s Lack Of Info Could Mean For Marvel’s Avengers’ War For Wakanda DLC

While fans were hoping for an information blowout from Square Enix’s conference, all they received was a cinematic trailer for the DLC. While it was well-made with some great music, and fans can at least be confident that the character is being treated with the respect he deserves, there is not much to go off regarding the content itself. In turn, fans have reason to doubt that this specific Marvel's Avengers DLC will be the saving grace that they have been so desperately hoping for.

If War for Wakanda was changing the game in a profound way, it is hard to imagine why that would not be shown at the Square Enix conference. As such, gamers may have already seen all the new content that is being added. While it originally seemed like the DLC was going to be massive, this trailer implies that it could be much smaller. New enemies may be limited to the spiders, while a Klaw boss fight could be all that is added in terms of villains. The power level increase may have little meaning and not be worth showing off, while the story could be the same lengthy as the Taking Aim or Future Imperfect DLC. If there is more to War for Wakanda, and it really is coming in August, not showing that at E3 is confusing.

For now, fans are in the same place they were with War for Wakanda a few months back. While it is a possibility that it will bring a huge amount of content and revive the game, Crystal Dynamics showing none of this in action gives reason for concern. Likewise, while the August release window is good news if it sticks, the decision to leave a specific date unnamed leaves fans worried about a delay. With the release window also going unmentioned in the trailer itself, and instead saved for the description and social media, it seems even less definitive. Hopefully, Crystal Dynamics will begin to share some more in-depth info soon, as this vague trailer has not done nearly enough to make the DLC seem like the big deal it needs to be.

Marvel’s Avengers is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
