With only four months left until The Avengers smashes its way into theaters, Marvel: Avengers Alliance, a new, exclusive Facebook game, will get players and fans alike amped for what is sure to be an exciting year for Marvel. Designed by Disney Interactive Media Group's Playdom Studios, Marvel: Avengers Alliance is a new, unique combat role playing game that includes dozens of heroes and villains from the Marvel universe.
Avengers Alliance features an all-new story that is not related to any previous Marvel work, centered around a galaxy-wide disaster that is only known as "the Pulse," which conveniently exposes Manhattan to attack from many of Marvel's most formidable villains.
Players are thus recruited as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and tasked with assembling and leading teams of heroes to keep The Big Apple safe from various villains like Dr. Doom, Loki, Red Skull, and Magneto. While battling these forces, players will also encounter various enemy factions to fight, including AIM and Hydra.
At the player's disposal will be a significant cache of heroes that all Marvel fans will enjoy, including (but not limited to) Spider-Man, Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, and Wolverine. Once a hero is added to the Avengers team, players can begin training them to unlock various special and unique abilities and attacks, as well as using "ISO-8" to further customize each character's stats. Players will also have the ability to square-off against each other in PvP social battles.
Like most Facebook games, expect Marvel: Avengers Alliance to rely on your Facebook Friends to deliver the full experience. While everyone knows that some Facebook games do this better than others, it will be very interesting to how how this 'friend dynamic' will impact Avengers Alliance. The game's premise sounds interesting enough; whether or not it will stand out amidst the myriad of Facebook games remains to be seen.
