It seems as though some families will never stay apart, no matter how badly they might want to. A new animated series based on the subversive '90s sitcom Married... with Children is currently shopping around for a broadcast or streaming home, and it's already got the original cast members to sweeten the deal.

The popular Fox show featuring a dysfunctional family of questionable morals may reportedly see a new day in the form of an animated successor. Coming with a script from Family Guy executive producer Alex Carter, it appears there may be a rather familiar feel to the series should it find a host platform. But far from only having someone from such a long-running staple of TV as its writer, the potential new chapter in the life of the Bundy family has also nabbed all 4 of the beloved cast members seen in Married... with Children.

According to Deadline, original series stars Ed O'Neill (Al), Katey Sagal (Peggy), Christina Applegate (Kelly), and David Faustino (Bud) have already signed on for the new project. All 4 have found modest success since the show ended, with O'Neill starring on Modern Family, Sagal featuring prominently in Futurama, Applegate maintaining a solid career in films and shows like Dead to Me, and Faustino voicing a major role in The Legend of Korra. Carter has been working on this for over a year with Sony Pictures Television. All that's left to make it official is for a network or streaming service to pick it up, and there are apparently already a few making goo-goo eyes at this promising idea.

Deadline also speculates that Fox, Hulu, and Peacock are among the most likely platforms to potentially host the Married... with Children animated series. However, nothing has been confirmed as of yet. This is primarily based on the fact that both Hulu and Peacock currently stream the original series. Meanwhile, Fox is known for carrying similar adult-oriented animated shows, which puts it next to the other two as possible candidates.

Married... with Children starred O'Neill, Sagal, Applegate, and Faustino as the Bundys, a family that stood at odds with the wholesome vibe put out by sitcoms over the decades preceding its debut. Specifically meant as a satire of classic family-focused shows like Leave It to Beaver, it struck a chord with audiences as it depicted an exaggerated antagonistic relationship between its main characters. O'Neill's Al Bundy, for instance, peaked during his high school years on the football team and would often take out his frustrations on his wife, Peg (Sagal), who herself could dish it out just as well. They weren't meant to be a healthy family, and audiences loved it. While it also featured a colorful collection of supporting characters like Amanda Bearse as the stuffy neighbor Marcy, there's currently no word on whether other cast members from the show will return to reprise their roles.

It will be interesting to see how such a show is handled in this day and age, particularly given the original's often misogynistic humor. But it can be argued that those sorts of jokes were meant to help Al come across as a washed-up loser romanticizing the past rather than someone for viewers to relate to. The fact that many still did could pose an issue. Still, if done well, a continuation of such a concept could potentially vibe with more modern sensibilities. Here's hoping it gets the chance to try.
