Paramount Pictures has released the first official trailer for its summer action film Infinite. Starring Mark Wahlberg in the lead role, the movie will premiere on the Paramount Plus streaming service on June 10. It’s unusual for films to not have a trailer so close to their release date, but that issue has now been resolved.

Based on D. Eric Maikranz's novel The Reincarnationist Papers, the film will portray the story of Evan McCauley, who seems to be haunted by memories that aren’t truly his own. The first trailer of Infinite offers viewers a glimpse of this character, with Wahlberg’s McCauley coming face-to-face with an individual who is more aware of his skills and a past that he cannot remember.

The first minute of the Infinite trailer shows Wahlberg’s Evan McCauley looking confused about his identity, with the words “Look inside” carved on his chest with a box cutter. The mystery behind those words will obviously be revealed in the film, but it is reminiscent of Christopher Nolan’s Memento, where the lead character, who suffers from short-term memory loss, uses photographs and tattoos on his own body to track his wife’s killers.

Infinite, however, is not about a murder mystery and will, in fact, cover a mind-bending reality that unites McCauley with a whole group of individuals called “Infinites” who have similar memories to his. These memories are from past lives, which span over centuries, with the individuals being reincarnated after one of their lives comes to an end. With the help of the other members of the group, Wahlberg’s McCauley will seemingly learn to accept and use the skills that he has learned over the thousands of years of his existence.

The Infinite trailer seems to also be paying homage to the Fast and Furious franchise, with similar over-the-top stunts involving extremely fancy cars crashing through walls, windows, and an entire police station. It seems like an action flick these days is incomplete without a helicopter chase scene, and Infinite makes the cut. The action-packed trailer also offers a look at some great cinematography, with a few wide shots of breathtaking scenery in Cardiff.

Infinite was previously slated for a theatrical release in August. However, after having been delayed due to the ongoing pandemic, the studio decided on a digital release on the newly re-branded Viacom CBS streaming service. The film has been directed by Antoine Fuqua, best known for his Oscar-winning film Training Day, and written by Ian Shorr, who has previously worked on films like Splinter and Fight Night

Infinite is scheduled to premiere on Paramount Plus on June 10, 2021.
