'Mario Sports Mix' Release Date Revealed

Mario Sports Mix Release Date

Wii owners have had a great year in terms of awesome content for their system, but this year's almost over so it's time to start looking forward to the games that Nintendo will be releasing next year. The only problem with this is that nobody has any idea when these titles are finally scheduled to hit in 2011. Nintendo has been kind enough to reveal one release date, and even though it's not Skyward Sword, Mario Sports Mix still seems like a decent game.

Mario Sports Mix will release on February 4th in Europe and February 7th in North America. That's right, Europeans will be enjoying Mario Sports Mix a full three days before their Western brethren. It's rare that Europe gets anything before the rest of the world, so enjoy your victory while you have it Euros!

For those not in "the know", Mario Sports Mix is a medley of all kinds of different sports available on one disc. There are a grand total of four games for Mario and friends to play, including hockey, dodgeball, volleyball, and a return to form for the pudgy plumber with basketball (which the game's trailer shows off beautifully). The game includes classic Mario characters such as Mario, Peach, Luigi, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Wario, Waluigi, Diddy Kong, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Daisy, and Toad.

Square Enix is the developer of this Mario game, which will bring back memories to some who played Mario Hoops 3-on-3 for the DS. People who remember that game may also remember that Final Fantasy characters made a playable appearance and this game is no different. The Black Mage, Ninja, Moogle, Shirma, and Cactaur of Final Fantasy fame will all be making their return for this installment, but this time the Slime from Dragon Quest will be joining in on the sports madness. Gamers will also be able to play with their Mii, which should make for some fun times.

It's nice to see that Nintendo has decided to bundle a bunch of Mario sports games into one so that there aren't separate releases like they've been doing in the past. That's not a knock against Mario Strikers or Mario Golf, but it just becomes extremely tedious when there's 500 different games featuring Mario being sensational at a different sport year after year. There's only one problem that Nintendo will have after the release of Mario Sports Mix — what sport could he possibly play next?!

Are you going to purchase Mario's latest sports outing? What sport could Mario possibly tackle next?

Look forward to playing with hockey sticks and tossing dodge balls in Mario Sports Mix on February 7th, 2011.
