Ever since the launch of the Nintendo Switch back in 2017, Nintendo has continued to release all sorts of new colored Joy-Con and special edition consoles for fans to enjoy. Whatever your favorite color might be, Nintendo usually has the option for you. And considering that Nintendo has gone out of its way to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Super Mario this past year, it would make sense to release a special edition Switch system just for the momentous occasion.

The gaming company is releasing a suped-up port of the Wii U gem, Super Mario 3D World, in just a few more weeks, and it adds in the Bowser's Fury expansion, which sees Mario facing off against a giant Bowser with the help of Bowser Jr. and his magic paintbrush. A new trailer was released today that shows off the new level and the improved performance from the Wii U version. But, that's not the only thing that Nintendo fans can look forward to this year.

Nintendo has announced a Mario Red and Blue Edition of the Switch console. This special hardware will be available for purchase at retailers starting on February 12, the same release date as Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. As fans can see in the image below, the console itself is colored red, which is the first time that Nintendo has done this. The Joy-Con are colored red to match Mario's design, as well as the blue Joy-Con grips.

For those die-hard fans that pick this new console up, they will also get their hands on a neat carrying case for the Nintendo Switch. It's red and blue and has small designs from Mario's iconic costume. If fans zoom in, they'll be able to see Mario's gloves, his hat, his mustache, and his overalls.

The carrying case will also include a screen protector to protect that precious Switch screen. For those wondering what the price is for this special edition Switch, it costs $299.99. That's the same price as a regular Nintendo Switch, so consumers are essentially getting the carrying case at no extra charge, which is a steal.

This Nintendo Switch release alongside Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is sure to be one of the biggest events of the year for Nintendo. For a year that is mostly TBD when it comes to big first-party releases from the company, things are starting to shape up. If that rumored Nintendo Direct happens this month, fans will definitely have more titles to look forward to in 2021.
