Although rumors rumbled for a long time about the development of a Mario meets Rabbids crossover game, the announcement of Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle still came as something of a surprise for fans. Immediately, the game picked up a following among Nintendo gamers, and now those interested in picking up the title at launch can also get a look at what Ubisoft has in store when it comes to post-launch content.

Indeed, Ubisoft has now confirmed exactly what it has planned for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, by way of Season Pass content. For starters, Season Pass buyers will be given some content at launch, in the form of eight exclusive steampunk weapons. Meanwhile, this fall will see the release of further content for the game, with gamers being given access to new solo challenges and co-operative maps.

Perhaps the biggest pull of the Season Pass is the final part of the downloadable content plan. In 2018, there will be further story content released for the game. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle itself will be released on August 29 for the Nintendo Switch, and that date also marks the time when gamers will be able to get their hands on the Season Pass. It will be available on the Nintendo eShop for $19.99.

Although plenty of gamers may well be tempted by the Season Pass, particularly if they have grown fond of the game before release after a focus on characters such as Rabbid Luigi, purchasing the Season Pass on launch day might be something of a big ask for some. After all, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is something of a major deviation from the norm, and so there may well be some hesitancy from some before putting down money on as-yet unknown additional content.

That said, Mario + Rabbids has certainly gained itself a strong following so far, so much so that the game has been clearly pinpointed by many as one of the most exciting games of summer 2017. Given that the game looks to bring fun, tactical combat into such a bizarre team-up of the Mario and Rabbids universes, it's definitely going to be a unique experience to say the least.

Of course, there's more to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle than meets the eye, and there will no doubt be that trademark Mario charm that apparently includes Mario Kart influences. Here's hoping that the title lives up to expectations when it sees release this summer.
