The announcement of Mario Party Superstars back during E3 2021 made a point to promote how it came with 5 Nintendo 64-era boards available. Other than that, not much was known about the title apart from two of the boards being Princess Peach's Birthday Cake and Space Land. As of the September 23 Nintendo Direct, the 5 remade boards have been revealed, along with new modes to go with it.

The title follows after Super Mario Party's release, aiming to bring back all sorts of things fans adore about the series with it. The title seeks to not only bring back old boards and playstyles from the first three titles with online play, but to update them with new graphics and some quality of life features at the same time.

The other three N64 boards in Mario Party Superstars have been revealed to be Woody Woods from Mario Party 3, Yoshi's Tropical Island from the original Mario Party, and Horror Land from Mario Party 2. The boards come back with all of their original special events, such as the Monty Moles changing directions of signs in Woody Woods, and the day and night dynamics found in Horror Land. Special new modes were also announced in the new trailer shared during the Direct.

These modes will be part of a section dubbed Mt. Minigames, which will be courses and modes dedicated to only minigames. The two modes the trailer showed are Survival, which deals with being the last one standing in numerous minigames, and Tag Match, which pits two players against another two players in a competitive co-op mode. Mt. Minigames will have seven courses available, and the trailer reassures viewers that all modes and boards will be available for online play.

With everything revealed for Mario Party Superstars, there's lots for fans to be excited about. Many fan-favorite boards are making their return, updated with new visuals and changes to make the experience even better, with online play there to seal the deal.

Now that all 5 Nintendo 64-era boards are announced, though, some fans may be disappointed at the selection if their favorite boards were left out. While it remains to be seen if Mario Party Superstars will have DLC to bring back even more classic boards, there's a chance some of the new features added to the game may make up for the lack of other fan favorites.

Mario Party Superstars is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch on October 29th.
