Summer is finally arriving in Mario Kart Tour. In a forthcoming update, Mario Kart Tour will be receiving a new summer-themed tour that includes Cheep-Cheep Island, a remake of a track from Mario Kart: Super Circuit.
Mario Kart fans know how Nintendo loves revamping classic courses. While the console titles usually include a handful of cups that are solely comprised of re-imagined older maps, Mario Kart Tour has integrated classic courses by including them in its frequent tours. Sometimes the tours are pretty general with their theme, like the Sydney Tour this past spring which introduced a new course set in Sydney, while others are more directly related to the seasons, like this upcoming one.
As announced by the official Mario Kart Tour Twitter account, Cheep-Cheep Island from Mario Kart: Super Circuit, is set to make a return to the series in the new Summer Tour, the first of three tours to celebrate the Summer. This will be the first time that the track has appeared in a Mario Kart game since that original GBA title, and the first classic course to be added to Mario Kart Tour since DK Summit this past winter. As with all tours, the Summer Tour is set to run for two weeks, starting June 30th and ending on July 14th.
Hidden in the post is also the Summer Tour's expected character addition. In the center of the picture, between Mario and Rosalina, and behind the tail of the Cheep-Cheep is a hard-to-make-out driver. After much theorizing, fans believe this to be Swimwear Daisy, which makes sense considering the other summer-like costumes of Mario and Rosalina. It is unclear what other obtainable costumes are coming to Mario Kart Tour, but as the previous Team Donkey Kong vs. Team Bowser event demonstrated, the possibilities are endless.
While Nintendo's support for some of its titles has certainly been inconsistent, it has been pretty reliable in pushing new updates for Mario Kart Tour. Considering Mario Kart Tour's over 200 million downloads, there is a lot of money to be made if Nintendo can keep players coming back. It is a classic trade-off, locking exclusive and limited-time content behind gacha mechanics, and Nintendo has seemingly perfected it with Mario Kart Tour. Hopefully, Nintendo does not press its own luck and implement them into future console titles like Mario Kart 9.
