Rumor Patrol: ‘Mario Kart 8’ Wii U Bundle Racing to Retailers

By | 3 years ago

Despite offering plenty of great first-party titles, many consumers have yet to jump behind Nintendo’s struggling Wii U console. While some analysts believe that house of Mario has backed itself into a corner with its latest tablet-centric platform, there’s one major title that the Big N is banking on. Scheduled to release later this May, Mario Kart 8 is one of the few exclusive games coming this year that could reverse the fortunes of the Wii U.

There’s no question that Nintendo plans on pushing Mario Kart 8 as a major reason to purchase a Wii U when the game comes out. Given the sales potential that the title brings to the platform, it makes sense to create a new bundle featuring the anticipated racing game and the console.

While such a bundle has yet to be officially confirmed, an insider for (as reported by NintendoLife) has leaked an image of the Mario Kart-centric Wii U SKU. The image highlights a package that comes with a black 32GB Wii U, a copy of Mario Kart 8, and a 7-day trial for Wii Karaoke U — the latter of which seems like an incredibly odd addition to the package.

Mario Kart 8 Wii U BundleA Mario Kart 8 bundle is almost a given, especially when considering how much Nintendo has on the line, but the source claims that this particular package is only planned for Europe at this point in time. Given the appeal of the title on a worldwide scale, however, it’s almost inevitable that North American consumers will have the option of picking up this “premium pack.”

Of course, Europeans currently have the option of pre-order a collector’s edition of Mario Kart 8 while the rest of the world has been left to turn green with envy, so it’s possibly (albeit unlikely) that the SKU will completely bypass other markets. That said, Nintendo has yet to even announced this alleged bundle, so Mario Kart fans and interested parties alike will have to stay tuned for an official announcement from the company.

Mario Kart 8 will be racing onto the Wii U on May 30.
