With the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch only a few weeks away, many owners of the new Nintendo console are already gearing up to play another round of Mario Kart. Now, Nintendo has started ramping up the excitement with a brand new trailer, ahead of the title's release on April 28.

The trailer in question claims that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the biggest Mario Kart game yet, and Nintendo doesn't spare any time before getting into the details. For starters, the trailer reiterates that players have the option of racing as one of over 40 characters, showcasing the likes of Metal Mario as well as external characters such as Link from The Legend of Zelda and a Splatoon Inkling.

As well as the character choices available, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will also play host to a solid roster of tracks. Indeed, the amped-up version of the original Wii U release includes 48 tracks for players to enjoy. Those interested in seeing the full trailer can do so below.

Nintendo also showcases the flexibility that this Switch release will bring in terms of multiplayer. As well as the traditional split-screen local multiplayer for four players, the Switch's tabletop mode also allows two-player split screen action, while up to eight players can race against each other in handheld mode. The trailer also discusses the online multiplayer modes available, which could be a good place for Nintendo to test its paid-for online services come fall.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe does bring some rather big changes over the original game, too. For starters, the title is including additional Battle Mode game modes, which were something of a controversial omission from the first release of Mario Kart 8. Ideally, the new modes being added will do justice to the classic Battle Modes that have come before.

For those Nintendo Switch owners who already have their Mario Kart 8 Deluxe purchase locked in, there is also some vital information available. The title will not take up much space on the Switch's memory once released, with an initial install of only 6.75GB required. No doubt gamers will be hoping that the game packs a considerable punch in spite of its small size.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be released on April 28, 2017, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
