After players have defeated the Sacred Flamebeast in Mario Golf: Super Rush's Golf Adventure mode, they'll be able to take on the pro Speed Golf challenge at the Wildweather Woods course. They'll be going head to head against Luigi and Donkey Kong in what can actually be an incredibly challenging competition for those who enter into it unprepared.

Unlike some of the previous challenges in Golf Adventure, players are given very little leeway when it comes to their performance on the course and so will need to bring their A game if they're to have any hopes of emerging victorious. They'll also need to have invested their ability points wisely, or will otherwise find it incredibly difficult to keep up with the the competition.

Understanding The Rules Of The Challenge

How scores are calculated in the pro Speed Golf challenge in Mario Golf: Super Rush

Whereas earlier Speed Golf challenges had players racing to complete holes in a set amount of time, the pro challenge instead sees them attempting to achieve a faster time than Luigi and Donkey Kong. The fastest golfer will be awarded three points, second place gets two and the person who comes in last is warded just a single point. Whoever has the highest points total at the end of 18 holes is crowned the winner.

Getting the fastest time is not quite as simple as being the first to get the ball in the hole, however, as each additional stroke that players take will add 30 seconds onto their total time. This means that it's possible to finish 29 seconds after Luigi or DK, but still finish up ahead of them if fewer strokes were taken getting the ball in the hole. As such, there's a certain level of strategy involved when it comes to deciding when to rush and when to take a little longer lining up a shot.

How To Beat Luigi & Donkey Kong

The final scorecard in the pro Speed Golf challenge in Mario Golf: Super Rush

Generally speaking, Luigi and Donkey Kong will usually score around the same number of points over the course of 18 holes, although every once in a while one will pull ahead of the other. If this happens, players can use their special dash to knock the leader's ball into bunkers and water to ensure that they don't get too far ahead. This also has the added bonus of increasing the likelihood of the player taking all three points for the hole.

While taking speedy shots is definitely important, being able to get to one's ball as quickly as possible after taking a shot is typically where this challenge will be won and lost. Those who've been neglecting their speed and stamina stats will likely need to level up a little more to boost them to a healthy level, although stamina should always take priority. The special dash is the fastest way of traversing a course and has the added bonus of being able to move other players' balls and knock them over on contact.

The Wildweather Woods course in Mario Golf: Super Rush

The weather in Wildweather Woods can also play a big role in proceedings, so players will need to keep this in mind as they play. They should be sure to account for wind when playing lofted shots, hit the ball a little harder on the green to counteract the effects of rain and avoid taking their power meter into the warning zone to avoid being hit by lightning. It can be tempting to equip the Lightning Attire to minimize the effects of lightning, but it's far easier to just avoid being hit by altogether and stick with the Attack Attire for the extra special dashes.

It can also pay to keep an eye on Luigi and Donkey Kong's stroke count, as they'll occasionally both have a bad hole and end up on course for a score of one or two over par. Whenever this happens, it's best to take a little more time with shots than usual, as providing players can sink their putt within thirty seconds of their rivals doing so, they'll still come out on top for the hole by virtue of having completed it in fewer strokes.
