Super Mario: Super Rush has been a long time coming for fans of the series. That last game was Mario Golf: World Tour in 2014 for the 3DS so it was indeed a long wait. The reviews have been mixed on the new game but they haven't been so much negative as they have been satisfied.

However one feels about Super Mario: Super Rush, there is no denying the game is in need of some patches to make it a better experience. From extra modes and characters to more buttons, some fixes could make the game a better experience for all that play it.

8 Skip Other Player Turns

One of the best features in the PlayStation counterpart to this series, Everybody’s Golf, is being able to speed through turns. This can be applied to playing a round of golf alone or with opponents. The skip option is always there.

While this game allows players to fast-forward turns on standard golf matches, there is no skip button. Why does Super Mario: Super Rush make one wait for opponents to play their turns in Speed Golf if the actual player already won?

There is another thing Nintendo should add a skip button to — Golf Adventure’s story. It lacks charisma or any real pull to get players motivated in following along with their Mii golfer’s rise to stardom. It didn’t have to be a dramatic story to be interesting — it just needed to be entertaining and/or funny which it fails at. Adding a skip button would be ideal but fast-forward button would suffice.

6 Add Difficulties

Super Mario: Super Rush is not too terribly hard when facing off against the AI. The game seems to have a rubber-banding problem like in Mario Kart when it comes to the AI as it can get ahead then fall behind seemingly purposely if the player is doing worse.

Having an AI adjust the difficulty on the fly works for some games but if that’s indeed what is happening here, it isn’t a perfect execution of this mechanic. It might be better to add in some actual difficulty options in the menu.

5 More Characters

The current roster in this game is pretty good. Each character has its own unique powers with some being weaker than others but all of them feeling fun to play at the very least. Mayor Pauline from Super Mario Odyssey is a standout as being a Mario character that was sidelined for so long before making a grand comeback in that game.

Playing as random cannon fodder character like Boo has never felt that appealing in any of these Mario sports spinoff games though. It would be cool to see this franchise, or any other sports spinoff, get the Mario Kart 8 treatment — just imagine watching Link or Isabelle play golf!

4 Outfits For Main Characters

If adding in new characters is too hard there is another solution to help make the Mario characters more unique. Players can dress up their Miis in the story mode but they can not adjust clothes for the main characters. For Boo, this makes sense since it is a ghost that wears nothing, but where are the alternate costumes for Mario, Peach, Bowser and the others though? Even a color swap would be a solid potential option to spice things up.

3 Add Early Fast Travel

Getting around the campaign in Golf Adventure can be tiring. There is no run button to get around despite there being a prominent new dash featured in Speed golf. There isn’t even a fast-travel system in the early hours of this mode.

For a game released in 2021, this is the most shocking absent feature of all. It’s not like these little hub maps are as huge as the plains of Breath of the Wild but getting around quicker in some way would be helpful for players.

2 Rewind In Practice

When it comes to making that perfect shot in a golf game, there are a lot of factors to consider. How good are the clubs? What’s the wind like? How well did the player hit the meter?

Because there are a lot of variables, it would be nice if there was a way to rewind time in practice mode. Why didn’t that shot make it into the hole? What exactly was misaligned? Being able to do this would make acing Super Mario: Super Rush a cinch for players that want to learn the game inside and out.

1 Play Holes Solo

If Nintendo thinks a rewind feature would be too much, there is another option. Currently, players can only play three holes of golf at a minimum. To Super Mario: Super Rush’s credit it at least allows players to choose what hole they start at, but it would be great if this could be reduced to one so that players could play each hole on repeat to master the game level by level.
