Film stars pursuing work in other industries is commonplace, whether it's crossing over onto Broadway, writing their own books, or even doing voice acting in video games. The trend continues with a new star-studded casting announcement for Maquette, which is developed by Graceful Decay, and published by Annapurna Interactive.

Graceful Decay's debut game is a "first-person puzzle game set in a recursive world," where players repeatedly explore 3D environments to progress through the game's narrative. The game was actually first announced by Hanford Lemoore, the creative director, at the 2011 Game Developers Conference as a prototype. The game's art style is heavily inspired by Lemoore's real-world surroundings in San Francisco, which can be seen throughout the game's lush environments, architecture, and sound design.

Complete with a new trailer, Annapurna Interactive announced the two main characters in Maquette will be voiced by Bryce Dallas Howard and Seth Gabel. The duo voice the romantic couple of Kenzie and Michael, which the game's narrative will focus on, even though the two aren't seen on screen. Movie fans will recognize Howard from her roles in the Jurassic World franchise, The Help, and the Twilight Saga. Gabel is more known for his television roles in shows such as Fringe, Salem, and Nip/Tuck.

While Howard has been credited for voice work in games before, it has been for reprising the Jurassic World character of Claire Dearing in games like Jurassic World Evolution and LEGO Jurassic World. Howard has wanted to get more involved in video games for a while, and Maquette has provided the perfect opportunity to do so, which she describes as an "immersive emotional experience."

Since Leemore is touting that the two actors are there to be the "emotional heartbeat of the story,” players will likely have high expectations for the game's narrative. It will be interesting to see how the talents of these two well-respected artists are integrated into the game. It's likely that this trend of movie stars in video games will continue, especially with news like Vin Diesel joining ARK 2 in a very prominent role. Either way, for those interested in this new narrative-focused puzzle game, there is only a month to go.

Maquette will release on PS4, PS5, and PC on March 2, 2021.
