The Falcon and the Winter Soldier just ended, meaning fans of Disney Plus' various addictive series have to look elsewhere for their regular dose of nerdy sustenance for the time being. For now, that source will have to be some more of that sweet sweet speculation. The topic this week? The Mandalorian season 3, which rumors now suggest might just feature some new giant walking carpet friends.

That's right, the Wookiees appear perched for a triumphant return to the Star Wars universe. Of course, that isn't to say they've necessarily gone anywhere. But aside from what many consider to be a lackluster portrayal of Chewbacca in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, as well as a bit of a supporting role for the tall fuzzy warriors in Jedi: Fallen Order, it seems it's been quite some time since the Wookiee race has had a chance to really shine in the franchise.

Social media presence Bespin Bulletin, known for sniffing out scoops related to the Star Wars franchise, recently made a post on Instagram suggesting the next season of the fan-favorite series The Mandalorian might feature the appearance of one or multiple Wookiees. As said in their post, "Last year I heard rumors that a Wookiee or Wookiees may appear in The Mandalorian. I've heard of a Wookiee showing up again as of late from a secondary source and even saw proof that a Wookiee might be appearing in The Mandalorian Season 3 from a new source. I don't know if the Wookiee is of any significance, if it's a character we're familiar with, or if even just a background character. Just thought it was worth mentioning as we all love a fuzzball."

Naturally, the rather noncommittal tone of the post pretty much requires the reader to take the whole thing with a grain of salt. But the idea does bring up some interesting possibilities. One such suggestion has been offered by several fans, including those in the comments of the original Instagram post. It speculates that the Wookiee bounty hunter Black Krrsantan, a relatively recent addition to the Star Wars comics who's had dealings with fan-favorite character Doctor Aphra, might make his on-screen debut in season 3 of The Mandalorian, which would certainly be an excellent excuse to introduce Wookiees to the series.

The legitimacy of this rumor aside, it would really be a breath of fresh air to see a new original Wookiee character show up in the Star Wars universe. Of course, Black Krrsantan (the correct way to pronounce it is to give up) isn't technically a new character, but to those who haven't read the comics or don't keep up with the ever-changing depths of Wookieepedia, the unofficial official Star Wars wiki likely wouldn't be familiar with him.

Again, none of this is official and it's barely more than a rumor at this point, but considering that The Mandalorian season 3 hasn't even begun filming yet, it seems like there are still tons of possibilities on the table. A Wookiee bounty hunter certainly wouldn't be the strangest thing the series has ever done, but he might very well be the hairiest.
