It looks like one of the big baddies from The Mandalorian is set to get one heck of a makeover when he comes back in season 3. Moff Gideon, whose attempts to turn the Force-sensitive young alien Grogu into a weapon for the Imperial remnants was thwarted at the end of season 2, apparently isn't so easily taken down. But a quality comeback requires a quality new wardrobe, and it looks like he's got that covered.

Gideon, played by Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul star Giancarlo Esposito, has already been confirmed to return for the upcoming 3rd season of the immensely popular Disney Plus Star Wars series. But not much is known about what exactly the new batch of The Mandalorian episodes will entail for him. However, if one particular claim is to be believed, no matter what he ends up doing, he'll look darn good while doing it.

Star Wars scoop site Star Wars News Net just recently revealed a bit of info they say they learned last week regarding Gideon. While plot details haven't been released, it looks like he'll at least have a pretty sleek new look at some point in the new season. "We've learned that in season three Moff Gideon will have new armor and a new helmet," the report alleges. "The helmet will be black with red eyes and horns on it. The horns will be six, similar to what Darth Maul had. It will resemble a Mandalorian helmet, but it won't be exactly the same as the other Mando helmets we've seen. It will look closer to Boba Fett's helmet but it will be black, shiny, and very sleek. It will also be a bit bigger than the rest. Gideon is getting a full upgrade as he will also have a black and red jetpack."

Star Wars Rebels Clone Wars Mandalorians super commandos death watch

This is a pretty fascinating development, as the implications behind Moff Gideon wearing what appears to be Boba Fett-inspired Mandalorian armor could be pretty significant for the season as a whole. Star Wars News Net also clarified that they don't yet know whether he will be wearing this armor right away or whether it will show up later in the season. So knowing all that is enough for plenty of speculation to stir up among fans.

The description of the armor sounds strikingly similar to that of the Mandalorian super commandos (most notably Gar Saxon, who added actual spikes to his helmet) who pledged loyalty to Maul when he took over Mandalore during the Clone Wars. Moving past the roller coaster that was the previous sentence, if Gideon is wearing armor inspired by that particular group, it raises a number of questions. Does Maul's influence persist even after his death? Did a new faction of Mandalorians rise in power, simply adopting the look and style of the super commandos? Previous seasons of The Mandalorian seemed to insinuate that there's a civil war brewing among the Mandalorians, so Gideon picking a side could be an interesting twist.

Since it's unverified, this information should be taken with a grain of salt. But it's still undeniably interesting. Here's hoping season 3 of The Mandalorian is at least half as exciting as the rumors are making it out to be.

The Mandalorian season 3 is set to premiere on Disney Plus in February 2023.
