The Mandalorian is taking a bit longer to hit Disney Plus than fans might like, but series star Carl Weathers has got an update on when cameras start rolling on the upcoming third season of the iconic Star Wars show.

Weathers plays a character named Greef Karga, who hands out bounties and deals with bounty hunters, specifically the titular Mandalorian. Karga is now on good terms with the fan-favorite protagonist, so expect to see him return in the next season with a bigger role than before.

The spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett is on course to debut in December 2021, which is the month The Mandalorian has traditionally premiered. So, the Mandalorian's delay has left fans wondering when production on the series will resume. After making a recent appearance at Steel City Con, Weathers gave a more specific filming date for the long-awaited third season. "We’re gonna start a new season of The Mandalorian, within the next month... And I get to be in front of the camera again, and I get to direct again,” he explained. Recently, Giancarlo Esposito announced that The Mandalorian will be filming soon, so this adds credence to what Weathers said.

To say the least, there will be no shortage of Star Wars content for fans of the series. The saga has been getting a lot of spin-offs recently, including Star Wars: The Bad Batch, the Ahsoka series, the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, the Rogue One prequel Andor, Star Wars: Visions, and Rangers of the New Republic. Hopefully, this won't lead to franchise fatigue or series overload. The diversity of stories might actually serve to benefit the universe of Star Wars because it's such expansive lore with tons of stories to tell outside of the mainline films.

There are many things for fans to learn, including the history of some of the alien races and planets, the origins of the Jedi, and the past of the sith, to name a few. Many have been asking for Disney to continue doing spin-offs and leave the main Star Wars films alone, so these next few upcoming years will prove if Star Wars will survive this new format on Disney Plus.

Those who aren't into Star Wars should take comfort in knowing that they don't need to watch every single property that releases. Since they all serve in their own story, it's not necessary to be caught up with every Star Wars project, so to speak. However, for the fans who are diehard, they'll pick out the different references shown in the stories.

The Mandalorian seasons 1-2 are now available on Disney Plus.
