Very soon in a galaxy far, far away, a Mandalorian and a child will be taking to the stars once again. Yes it has indeed been confirmed by Disney that new episodes of the hit show will be dropping on Disney+ on October 30. It's been a long wait, but finally fans know exactly when they'll get their next Star Wars fix.

The Mandalorian was, and continues to be, one of the Disney+ killer apps that convinced quite a few people to check out the service while it was still new. Featuring Pedro Pascal as the titular Mandalorian, the series moved away from the more established periods of Star Wars canon, and opted instead to tell a brand new story set between the original trilogy and the Disney sequels. This setting allowed for a lot of creative story and artistic decisions that weren't constrained by the established stories of previous films.

In short, The Mandalorian was an episodic show where each chunk introduced a new central concept or gimmick. One episode featured the Mandalorian partnering with an assassin droid to kill a target, another had him preforming a prison break with a crew of amoral mercenaries. As a show it was first and foremost a creative venture, taking the universe to new places that the original films couldn't or wouldn't explore, while maintaining the campy science fiction feel of the brand. The writers and director took a big leap of faith by making a Star Wars show with no lightsabers, no rebellion, and no Sith. Well, maybe just one Sith.

Those creative risks paid off, of course, and while the project was expensive, with season 1 having a 100 million dollar budget, the show was cited by many as the main reason to subscribe to Disney+. The surprise star of the piece however, was The Child, a young alien, keenly in tune with the force, and more commonly referred to as 'Baby Yoda' by fans. Baby Yoda was an instant favorite, spawning countless memes, gifs, and clips that resulted in a tidal wave of social media publicity for the show. With any luck, fans can expect another wave of Baby Yoda appreciation when The Child inevitably returns for season 2 as well.

The Mandalorian Season 2 will hit Disney+ on October 30.
