Disney+ offers an increasingly tantalizing library of original content. The series that started their exclusive catalog, when the service launched, was The Mandalorian. Set in the Star Wars universe, this show follows a lone Mandalorian on his many adventures throughout the galaxy. Along the way, he encounters a strange child that changes his life entirely.
While the series is a great entry point for new franchise fans, it offers plenty of details for the Star Wars series' longtime veterans. Even the most dedicated followers of this beloved series may have missed several of the easter eggs hidden within season 2's episodes.
10 Boba Fett's Damaged Jetpack
One of the earliest details that references the original trilogy is the reemergence of Boba Fett's armor. The bounty hunter met his demise in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi thanks to a well-placed blaster shot from a blinded Han Solo.
Mando finds the salvaged suit of armor in the custody of "The Marshal." Even though the armor has been repaired, viewers will notice a hint at its previous ownership. There is a streak on the jetpack exactly where Han Solo's shot hit Boba back in Episode VI.
9 The Missing Third Mandalorian
Mando spends several episodes looking for other Mandalorians. He finally stumbles upon a trio in "Chapter 11: The Heiress." Initially from Mandalore, these warriors are led by Bo-Katan.
While Bo-Katan does return later on in the series with Koska Reeves, her male counterpart is eerily absent. What happened to this member of the group remains unknown. Be it a falling out between the group or him being needed elsewhere, he isn't mentioned again throughout the season.
8 Bo-Katan's Relationship With Ahsoka
After Mando helps Bo-Katan commandeer a ship to retake Mandalore, she tells him to find a Jedi, pointing him in the direction of Ahsoka Tano. Fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will know that Bo-Katan fought together with Ahsoka in the Siege of Mandalore during the aforementioned war.
Their time together led to their lasting friendship, even though they both lost their homes to the Empire. The most recent season of The Clone Wars will give newcomers an insight into how they fought the empire together.
7 Mando Giving Ahsoka His Pauldron
When Mando finds Ahsoka on Corvus, the pair form a partnership to outwit Morgan Elsbeth, the woman hunting Ahsoka. To make Elsbeth believe that Ahsoka has killed him, he gives her his pauldron with his crest etched into it, symbolizing a great faith in her. She uses this piece to significant effect and forms a stalwart bond with the protagonist in the process.
6 Ahsoka's Backhand Saber Style
When Ahsoka and Morgan battle at the end of "Chapter 13: The Jedi," the fight seems even at the beginning. Morgan uses a spear made of Beskar, the one material that lightsabers can't cut through. Both warriors are well-versed in combat, and neither side shows weakness.
This all changes when Ahsoka drops her long saber. She then switches to her dominant form, the backhand style, and it only takes her a few quick moves to overwhelm Morgan. In The Clone Wars, Ahsoka was originally a backhand style lightsaber wielder, only getting a second saber towards the end of the series. This scene shows that even now, she is best with this form.
5 Grogu Shifting To The Dark Side
"Chapter 14: The Tragedy" ends with Grogu's capture. The young force user doesn't go quietly, however. He can be seen in the holding chambers manipulating Stormtroopers with force. At one point, Grogu even uses Force Choke to strangle the soldiers.
It's an interesting scene that shows The Child is capable of dark acts when provoked. This lines up with Ahsoka's fears regarding his attachments and the potential to fall to the dark side.
4 Mayfield's Change Of Heart
In season 1, Mayfield was impulsive and almost Mando's undoing. In season 2, Mayfield makes a return. This former Imperial has codes that can locate Grogu.
After seeing how far Mando is willing to go to rescue his little green friend, Mayfield starts to change. He goes so far as to torch an entire base, not because it benefits him, but because he doesn't want them to hurt others. He says he does it to sleep at night, but it shows his growth as a character.
3 Boba Fett And Bo-Katan's Confrontation
When Mando is recruiting allies to rescue Grogu, he approaches Bo-Katan and Kosha Reeves. The pair shows no interest initially, much to Boba Fett's disdain. Bo-Katan mentions hearing his voice thousands of times before.
This is a callback to her fighting in the Clone Wars, defending Mandalore with the Republic's army. She may not know Boba, but she knows some of his brothers. Unsurprisingly, this hits home for Boba Fett, but it's a great reference to the animated series.
2 Moff Gideon's Motivation
After Moff Gideon's ship is invaded, he's all but lost the battle. Mando works out a deal that satisfies both of their needs. Mando lets Gideon go, and Gideon lets Grogu go. It seems like the two are agreed until Gideon attacks him suddenly. It's a shock to many in the audience and to Mando, who has no interest in fighting. Gideon's goal in this fight wasn't to win but to ensure that he didn't lose to Bo-Katan. His goal was to make sure that his enemies left this confrontation dissatisfied.
1 Bo-Katan's Lust For Power
Gideon confronted Mando because he knew he would lose the fight. When he lost the battle, ownership of the Darksaber moved on to Mando. The power of the Darksaber is in the legend. It has to be won in a contest; only then can the wielder claim it. This weapon is also the tool necessary for any who wishes to claim the throne of Mandalore. Bo-Katan knows this and will do anything to solidify her right to rule, even fight Mando. Thankfully, the pair is interrupted before a fight can break out. How Bo-Katan operates going forward is questionable at best.
