Earlier today, Lucasfilm announced a new publishing initiative that will encapsulate and expand on the world around Disney+'s beloved TV series, The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian is one of many pieces to the massive Star Wars franchise. The show is categorized as a "space-western" and follows bounty hunter and Mandalorian Din Djarin after he finds what the internet refers to as "baby Yoda," as his species does not yet have a name. Lucasfilm was "thrilled to announce" these new elements to the Mandalorian universe.

The upcoming series published by Lucasfilm will feature books and titles for fans of all ages. It will delve deeper into the Star Wars universe to give hard-core fans of the franchise even more content and activities. The first installment in the series will be The Art of The Mandalorian (Season One).

Other titles will include novels, such as a novelization by Joe Schreiber, who has written a few other books for the franchise. Though currently no plot details regarding these novels and original works have been released, StarWars.com says the series is set to release this fall, similar to the second season of the TV series.

It looks like a comic book series focusing around The Mandalorian is also coming, this time from Marvel and IDW Publishing, which is known for its regular licensed comic book adaptations of movies, television shows, and video games. Several other types of media are on the way as well, such as magazines and coloring books. For younger audience members, a Little Golden Book and a Screen Comix retelling of Season One will be on the way.

The Mandalorian scored exceptionally positive in its reviews and even won a few awards, including two from the Visual Effects Society. Fans should be excited, but perhaps not surprised, to know that Disney is already working on a third Mandalorian season, though a release date for it has not yet been set.

Fans were also excited by the news earlier this month that season 2 of The Mandalorian will be arriving on Disney+ this October. Due to Covid-19, several movies and TV series' production processes have been delayed, but thankfully The Mandalorian wrapped filming in March, and it looks like Disney is still confident that their series will premiere on time.

The Mandalorian season 2 will premiere on Disney+ October 2020.
