Over the past several years, Funko has been a frontrunner in the collectibles market. The company has been able to dominate the market primarily by way of its vast Pop! line, which has seen collectible figures from classic TV sitcoms like Friends, all the way to gaming franchises like the upcoming Halo: Infinite. Fans of all walks of life can't get enough of the figurines, however, it seems like one Reddit user might be taking their obsession a little too far.

Funko has been a force in the collectibles market since it was founded in 1998. A creation by Mike Becker, the company's original goal was to create toys that pulled on consumer's nostalgia. Since its founding, Funko has expanded beyond bobble-heads and banks, even dipping its toes into the world of video games with 2019's Gears Pop on mobile.

Earlier today, one Reddit user took to the AITA subreddit with a pressing question about their Pop! collection (note that it's entirely possible that this was fabricated to troll people). This subreddit is designed for users to present questions and situations to the community at large as to whether or not they may be in the wrong. The user, throwaway5936496 (obviously a throwaway account created to maintain privacy) explained that he has collected thousands of Pop! figures over the last six years and his wife wanted him to cut back on the spending for the figures. According to the user, for the past few months, he has spent about $500 monthly to expand his collection.

A man chooses his Funko Pop Collection over his Marriage

He continued on the post stating that his wife asked him to, "stop the Funko Pop collecting for a long time or at least cut down [his] Funko spending to 3 Funko Pops per month." He considered this to be ridiculous because of how limited he would be in his choice of Pops. Ultimately, this led to a larger fight that caused his wife to leave, later calling him to choose between their marriage or the plastic toys. Needless to say, he is currently awaiting divorce papers.

Even though the original post has been removed from the subreddit by the moderators, the overwhelmingly negative comment section remains. It seems that of the 396 comments on the post, almost all of them agree that the poster is in the wrong and needs to work on his marriage. Most Pop! collectors buy the figures because they believe the toys will become more valuable over time. This man just has an extreme passion for collecting, even if that passion means ending his marriage.
