Male Wii Fit Trainer Joins ‘Super Smash Bros. for Wii U’ & ‘3DS’

By | 3 years ago

There have been quite a few screenshots, and even a handful of roster reveals, since Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS were unveiled back in June at E3 2013. One of the major trends that has been occurring thus far has been the reveal of characters when the respective titles they originate from rise to prominence through the release of a new iteration.

It was odd to many that Nintendo didn’t announce any new combatants to accompany the reveal of Pokemon X and Y, despite Sonic being revealed earlier in October, but today another new fighter has been confirmed.

Following in the steps of his female counterpart, a male Wii Fit Trainer will also be making a playable appearance in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. What’s different about this character reveal, however, is that the male version of the face-less fitness buff didn’t receive his own profile on the official Smash Bros. website. What this likely means is that players will be able to decide which Wii Fit Trainer they want to play as in a single character spot.

It’s this alternate skin option that really puts forth an interesting prospect for fans, because it could indicate that there will be multiple skins for other characters as well. This would effectively eliminate clone characters, provide gamers with a cornucopia of unlockables, and dramatically increase the roster size based on which skins the developers would like to incorporate. Of course, this may just be a special option for the Wii Fit Trainer (similarly to how Wario had his original duds accessible in Brawl), but it’d be nice if the trend continued past one or two characters.

There are still presumably a large number of fighters, newcomers and veterans alike, that have yet to be revealed, and they’ll be arriving in the coming months. As 2014 approaches, so too does the release of the new Super Smash Bros. games. For now, stay tuned to Game Rant for more details regarding the titles and their respective rosters.

What do you think of the Wii Fit Trainer having two different skins? Which other characters would you like to see have alternate costumes?
