It's been nearly two months since Classic Wrath of the Lich King was released. A common question I've heard from fellow guild mates has been about gold. Specifically, making it; with new raids comes new consumables needed to excel at your class. Hunters, for example, have a wide variety of personal consumables needed to perform at the top of their game. The price adds up quicker than you may realize.

Thankfully, making gold in Classic World of Warcraft is easier than you think. While promises of get rich quick schemes are indeed too good to be true, you can still do several things to make extra coin.

For those that are looking to push the limits of the in-game gold cap, it will require time, market knowledge, and economic expertise. If you're looking to make some money to better fund your adventures in Northrend, you've come to the right place.

Presenting our list of six ways to make gold in Classic Wrath of the Lich King.

6 Know the market

Truthfully, this is the hardest thing to master if you want to make gold in World of Warcraft.

If you're lucky enough to be armed with excellent economic knowledge, this will be easy for you. Some of the smartest people I know who excel in the real world economy and Wall Street make gold in Classic Wrath with exceptional ease.

For others, like myself, it can be a little tougher.

Thankfully, there are some pretty simple rules to follow. First, there's knowing when to buy and when to sell. The game's generally at its busiest on the weekends. This means that the market will be flooded with supply; everyone will post their crafting materials as the market begins to race to the bottom. As they say, buy low and sell high.

Speaking of selling high, popular raid nights are when consumables will be at their peak price. Most people will be running raids on Tuesday after the reset, which means demand will be sky-high. Compare that with Monday, when most people have already raided, and the price will reflect the lower demand.

5 Stock up for the future

Part of knowing the market is also knowing what's coming up next. While real-world economists lack a crystal ball, Classic World of Warcraft players know exactly what's going to be in demand when the next phases of the game launch.

As a result, the biggest gold goblins out there are already stocking up for in-demand items for Icecrown Citadel, never mind Ulduar. It's not too late to prepare for the future, though. Doing research for popular and top-tier classes in future phases will still pay off.

4 Maximizing Profit From Your Professions

Whether it's gathering or crafting, professions are an easy way to make gold in World of Warcraft. When it comes to gathering, the only true limitation is the amount of time you're willing to invest.

Is it fun to spend hours running in circles gathering minerals and flowers? Not necessarily. Is it easy? Absolutely. Plus, you can always multitask while you're doing it. Turn on Netflix and binge a television series. Watch that movie you've been putting off. Put away some laundry while you're running gathering routes.

Am I also saying to farm gathering materials while you do your day job? I mean, I'm not not saying to do this…

For the "lazy" gold maker, certain crafting professions can result in easy profit. For example, Alchemy can deliver money by simply buying materials on the auction house, crafting flasks, and selling them for profit. The flask mastery profession specialization allows players to proc free flasks at random, often resulting in pure profit.

The best thing any crafter can do is scan the auction house with a Classic Wrath add-on such as TSM, run the math to figure out what you can craft at a profit, and print easy money.

3 Participate in GDKPs

One of the more controversial parts of Classic World of Warcraft is the prevalence of GDKP runs.

For those that are unaware, DKP, or Dragon Kill Points, is a common loot system where players can earn points for killing raid bosses. You can spend these points to bid or purchase loot in your raid. GDKPs is the same concept, but instead of spending points, you're spending gold. At the end of the raid, the gold is split between all the players.

This has become easy for people to make some serious World of Warcraft gold. People will sign up for these GDKPs as a carry; they don't need loot and instead will carry item buyers who will normally enter severely undergeared and thus underperform in raids.

Early payouts in Classic Wrath have been, at times, astronomical, with raiders walking out with 10,000 gold in their pocket. If you're able to participate regularly in a GDKP, I highly recommend it. You get to make money while playing the game; what's not to love?

2 Play the game, get paid in gold

Speaking of which, Wrath of the Lich King is set up to make an impressive amount of gold by simply playing the game.

Even doing your Sons of Hodir dailies can result in at least 1,000 gold a week, which isn't anything to sneeze at. It takes me about twenty or so minutes to do them when I'm half asleep first thing in the morning before I start my work day.

Then you start to add in things like daily dungeons, daily quests from other zones, or even finishing up questing for titles such as Loremaster. The amount of gold you get from simply doing quest adds up faster than you realize.

This number can compound over time too as you level up alts. Speaking of which…

1 You make a good amount of money as you quest in Northrend

One of the first things I realized when leveling from 70 to 80 was the amount of money I was making. Even when I ran back on my alt, who recently spent money for epic flying, I realized I made my money back from the investment. Add in the money I make from selling items in the heirloom slot, and before I knew it, I was in the green after spending money for that epic flying skill in Northrend.

With the more alts you have, you'll open up more opportunities to make gold. You'll have more professions at your disposal, more dailies to run, and more GDKPs to enter. Some of the richest people I know in Classic Wrath of the Lich King already have several level 80 characters. They've worked the market, mastered professions, and participated in GDKPs.

It seems trivial, but don't underestimate how much money you make while leveling from 70 to 80. Anytime you get to see an automatic return on your investment is a big win.
