Arrowhead Game Studios definitely knows how to make a fun title. Their breakout hit Magicka has become a phenomenal success on Steam, despite their rocky start with many bugs, and continues to grow. The developer announced today a new DLC for the game called Magicka: The Stars are Left.

This DLC has a theme, similar to how Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam was the basis for Magicka: Vietnam. This time however, the game is based around the legend of Cthulhu which should lead to some hilarious and fun antics that the developers are known for.

Just like their last major DLC update Magicka: Vietnam, The Stars are Left will also add a significant amount of content for fans to get lost in. Check below for the full list:

  • An all-new adventure, several levels long, allowing players to get lost in space and time
  • 2 new challenge maps
  • 2 new robes
  • 2 new bosses
  • 5 new achievements
  • 7 new enemies
  • Considerably more than 2 new items and Magicks
  • Also, we make fun of Minecraft this time

It’s going to be very interesting to see what the developers do to poke fun at their fellow indies at Mojang. We should also note that everyone doesn’t have to run and buy this expansion if one of their friends have it. Just like their PvP update, if the host has the new content then everyone connecting can play without buying the game. It seems like a strange approach, but it’s something that has worked well for the developers.

We also have the teaser trailer for Magicka: The Stars are Left. Check it out below.

The trailer doesn’t give a lot of info about what gamers can expect in this update, though anyone who has ever picked up Magicka knows that the developers are dedicated to delivering fun and addicting experience.

These screenshots though do give some insight into what players can expect when the download this DLC. It looks like players will be able to take the role of explorers and trek through jungles with giant man-eating spiders. It also looks like players will also be able to raid some tombs with three of their friends. This new setting will definitely lead to some Uncharted and Tomb Raider references.

As stated at the beginning of the post, Magicka had a rough start and yet it became very successful on Steam. Perhaps the reason why is because the developers were so quick to address and fix many of the bugs the plagued the early release. Gamers respected this and continued to support the developer.

There’s no doubt that Paradox Interactive and Arrowhead Game Studios will continue this tradition of support with Magicka: The Stars are Left.

Magicka: The Stars are Left will launch sometime this Winter for the PC. Did you enjoy Magicka and it’s Vietnam DLC? Will you be getting this when it’s released?
