Magic Showcase 2021 took place earlier today and Wizards of the Coast dropped a ton of exciting news about the year ahead for the collectible card game. In addition to announcing all of the 2022 Standard legal Magic: The Gathering sets, the event also offered a sneak peek at some other special products on the way.

Magic sets that take place outside of the established Magic: The Gathering planes and lore have been a hot topic of conversation over the last year. Despite the fact that some players feel those types of themed sets break the game’s immersion, they don’t seem to be going away anytime soon. A decent portion of Showcase 2021 was dedicated to Universes Beyond and some of the new projects underway for that line.

Not only are Warhammer and Lord of the Rings inspired cards on the way, but upcoming Secret Lair drops are going to put a spotlight on two super popular video game franchises, as well with Fortnite and Street Fighter products.

“Magic: The Gathering’s Secret Lair Drop Series features ultra-collectible, specially curated cards that are only available for a limited time. Fortnite will be getting two Secret Lair drops of its very own that will encapsulate iconic in-game locations and characters. The Secret Lair x Street Fighter drop features classic Street Fighter characters like Chun-Li, whose card includes the thematically appropriate mechanic multikicker.”

Fortnite

Fortnite will feature two special Secret Lair drops consisting of reprints like you've never seen them before—though you're on your own to practice your dance moves.

Street Fighter

Street Fighter celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2022, and we're joining in the fun with a Secret Lair drop featuring its iconic characters in ways only Magic can celebrate. Multikicker is the perfect mechanic for Chun Li, right?

Fortnite and Street Fighter fans should keep in mind that Secret Lair drops are very limited print runs and can quickly become expensive collector’s items. Interested shoppers should try to pre-order the products or find them early before the limited run sells out.

Magic: The Gathering is available now at card shops and digitally through Magic Arena on PC and mobile.
