Magic: The Gathering's Mythic Invitation is currently taking place, which means many of the best players in the world are competing for one of the biggest prize pools the game has ever seen. To celebrate the event, and Magic reaching more Twitch viewers than ever before, Wizards of the Coast revealed the first full trailer and some spoiler cards for the upcoming set, War of the Spark.

The cinematic trailers for Magic: The Gathering have been getting better and better over the past few years and this one is perhaps the most polished and well-directed yet. The trailer has moved beyond adding motion to card art and feels more like a true animated trailer. It features some of the game's most iconic planeswalkers, which makes sense since Wizards also revealed that this set is planeswalker-themed and will feature more of the unique card type than any set ever has in the past.

For those who don't know, planeswalkers are usually incredibly powerful and rare cards that end up controlling the outcome of many games. Since their introduction, most Magic sets have included around 3-5 planeswalkers in the Mythic Rare slot. That means that players opening a pack would have a pretty slim chance of getting one of those cards (though Magic Arena players can use Wildcards to guarantee a planeswalker). This time around, War of the Spark will feature more than 30 planeswalkers and they will be available outside of the mythic rarity slot.

“We have a fight to finish.

Nicol Bolas controls Ravnica. With Liliana Vess under his devious contract, the dragon god’s army of Eternals run free and the guilds have descended into chaos. But Liliana is ready to take back control of her own destiny. Now only the combined power of the Planeswalkers stands between Bolas and the ultimate power he craves.

War of the Spark features 36 Planeswalker cards and a story experience unlike anything Magic fans have played before. The multiverse is at stake. Will you join the fight?”

The trailer features some very recognizable faces including Lilliana, Gideon, Dack, and the big bad dragon Nicol Bolis. From the looks of things, the heroes are in trouble and the greatest thief in the multiverse may be in for a terrible ending (or maybe he'll survive and his spark will be gone?).

Magic: The Gathering Arena is available now for PC. War of the Spark releases in late April.
