The Duelists' Convocation International, or DCI, has been the official body overseeing Magic: The Gathering tournaments since 1993. For almost three decades, Magic players have been assigned unique DCI numbers, enabling them to go back and check their history of wins and losses whenever they want.

That's all about to change however, as Wizards of the Coast have announced that it's scrapping the DCI number system along with the website that tracked it. Also on the chopping block are Planeswalker Points, the updated version of Magic's tournament point-scoring that was first introduced in 2011.

Replacing these systems will be a new feature in the Magic: The Gathering Arena companion app, which will fulfill much of the same function. Unlike the website the app needs to be downloaded to a device, and anyone wanting to use it will need to create a Wizards of the Coast account to do so.

The reaction to the announcement among fans has been divisive, with a lot of negative outcry from those in the community who see a perfectly functional and historically important system being destroyed in the name of advancing technology. On the side of the argument, many members of the community say that as long as the original records are saved, then they have no problem with Wizards of the Coast updating its systems.
