Last month, Wizards of the Coast released Magic: The Gathering Arena's Historic Anthology 1, which added 20 cards from across MTG's history to the Historic format. These cards include the likes of Burning-Tree Emissary and Serra Ascendant, and WotC has since stated that the "new" cards are appearing in more than 20% of high-level Historic decks. However, this is not the end of the "new" cards slated for Historic, and Wizards has recently revealed another one that will be available very soon.

Specifically, Rhys the Redeemed, a legendary creature from Shadowmoor, will be legal in Magic: The Gathering Arena's Historic format beginning tomorrow, December 12. Additionally, Rhys will be playable in Brawl, MTGA's popular take on the Commander format, and players can earn a copy of the card, which can be seen below, by achieving a win in the forthcoming Brawlidays event.

For the uninitiated, the Brawlidays event will give players access to an always-available Brawl queue from December 12 to January 16. Typically, Brawl queues are only available on Magic: The Gathering Arena on Wednesdays, and Brawlidays may thus be desirable to fans that want more of this singleton constructed format. The entry fee for the Brawlidays event is 10,000 gold or 2,000 gems, and those that join will be able to play unlimited matches until the event comes to a close.

All of that said, players that want to add Rhys to their Brawl or Historic decks need not participate in Brawlidays, as the legendary creature can also be crafted using Magic: The Gathering Arena wildcards. As in Shadowmoor, Rhys the Redeemed will be a Rare card on MTGA, and Rare wildcards will thus be consumed when crafting it.

While it remains to be seen if Rhys will have a serious impact on either Brawl or Historic, it is always exciting to see Wizards of the Coast add more cards to Magic's constructed formats. Indeed, another batch of "new" cards is slated to be released for Historic in March 2020, as Historic Anthology 2, which will give players even more deck building options. Until then, though, the contents of Historic Anthology 1 coupled with Rhys the Redeemed should give players a bevy of new opportunities to brew.
