Magia Record is coming to an abrupt end for English-speaking players. After just over a year of service, the mobile game has now announced that the North American servers are being shut down.

Magia Record serves as a story spin-off of the anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and received an anime of its own earlier this year. Despite marketing efforts at major venues like Anime Expo, it appears that license holder Aniplex is no longer interested in running the game in North America after only launching the server back in June of 2019.

Magia Record's English servers will officially shut down on September 29 of this year. The Japanese servers are unaffected by this, and will continue as planned. Fans of the game have been outspoken in their disappointment at the sudden announcement, as no prior notice or even hints were given about the game's status. Many players have come forward complaining that the events and gacha banners being constantly run had made it seem like the game wasn't going anywhere.

Aniplex has not provided a reason as to why the game is shutting down. It's highly likely, though, that the game simply was not generating enough money to make it worthwhile for the company. While Magia Record had a loyal playerbase, it never rose to the heights of popular gacha games like Fate/Grand Order.

Unfortunately, the game has also stated that players won't be able to receive refunds for any microtransactions they've paid for, regardless of how recent they were. In addition, players won't be able to transfer their progress to the Japanese servers, further upsetting the playerbase. While every gacha game will likely go offline someday, this sudden upset is not being taken well by fans of Madoka Magica at all.

Magia Record is available in English on mobile devices until September 29.
