EA Sports has officially confirmed the cover athletes for Madden NFL 22, but the MVP edition has a noticeable omission. While Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady are both featured on the cover of the MVP edition, neither of them was the latest NFL MVP.

Not to take away from the quarterback skills of Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, the current NFL MVP is the Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers led the Packers to a 13-3 record last season and an NFC Championship Game appearance, a championship the team has become familiar with. Although the Packers lost this NFC Championship Game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Aaron Rodgers managed to become MVP of the season. Because of this, some fans are arguing that Rodgers should be the cover athlete of Madden NFL 22's MVP edition.

Despite being named MVP multiple times, Aaron Rodgers has never been a Madden NFL cover athlete. Patrick Mahomes appeared on the cover of Madden NFL 20, while Tom Brady was the cover star of  Madden NFL 18. Tom Brady is known as the greatest of all time to many football fans, and several consider Patrick Mahomes to be the next player to take that mantle so seeing both of them on Madden NFL 22's cover with its "two GOATs" theme makes sense. Although both of these quarterbacks are MVP quality, the true MVP is usually who graces the cover of the MVP edition.

Madden NFL 22 will release with three editions for players to choose between. The Dynasty Edition, MVP edition, and the standard edition. EA recently confirmed each edition and what will be included in it when they unveiled the release date for the upcoming Madden title. Each edition is more expensive than the last, but it also includes more content for football fans to use on and off the football field. EA Play subscribers will also gain early access to Madden NFL 22 when it releases later this year.

Given how many Super Bowl's Brady has been a part of, it's a surprise not to see the Tamp Bay Buccaneers' quarterback on more covers of Madden NFL titles. Patrick Mahomes has risen to new heights playing for Kansas City, putting both the young quarterback and the team on the map. While nobody is suggesting that Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady aren't MVPs in their own right, many fans are just confused why the current NFL MVP isn't on the cover of the MVP edition of Madden NFL 22. It's currently unknown if Aaron Rodgers' ongoing feud with the Green Bay Packers played a role in his omission from the MVP edition of Madden NFL 22.

Madden NFL 22 releases on August 20 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
