Madden NFL 22 is set to launch for numerous platforms next month, and in anticipation, EA Sports has been releasing its overall ratings for various players in the game. The first Madden NFL 22 99 overall player was revealed to be Davante Adams, and now EA Sports has confirmed Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to be yet another 99 overall player in the upcoming football game.

EA Sports revealed the overall rating for Patrick Mahomes in Madden NFL 22 along with the ratings for the rest of the top quarterbacks. Coming in second place is Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, who has a 97 overall rating despite his team defeating the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl earlier this year. Third place goes to Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, who has a 96 overall rating.

While the Green Bay Packers didn't make it to the Super Bowl this year, it still may be surprising to some to find out that Aaron Rodgers has a lower rating than both Mahomes and Brady. After all, Rodgers was named MVP of the league for his performance as a quarterback last season. There were even rumors that Rodgers was going to be the Madden NFL 22 cover athlete, though those didn't pan out.

Instead the Madden NFL 22 cover athletes are both Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, breaking a series tradition of usually sticking with one athlete on any given cover of a Madden NFL game. The theme for the Madden NFL 22 cover was "GOATs" (Greatest of All Time), so it does make sense that Brady and Mahomes are two of the highest-rated quarterbacks in the game's official ratings.

With the marketing picking up for Madden NFL 22, it will be interesting to see how the game is received by fans. It seems as though fans are being cautiously optimistic about Madden NFL 22 so far, as many are still burnt from Madden NFL 21. For the uninitiated, Madden NFL 21 was poorly-received at launch, with fans especially upset about the lack of improvements to the Franchise Mode.

EA Sports has promised improvements for Madden NFL 22's Franchise Mode, but it remains to be seen if they will be enough to ensure that the new game is better-received than last year's entry. Luckily, the wait for Madden NFL 22 is nearly over, as the next game in the long-running football sports franchise will be releasing within a matter of weeks from the time of this writing.

Madden NFL 22 launches August 20 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
