The NFL is entering the playoffs this weekend, with wildcard matchups between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers, the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys, and more. Madden NFL 22 is celebrating, of course, but not necessarily in the way some might expect. Madden NFL 22 is bringing back Nickelodeon Slimetime, a crossover event that introduces SpongeBob SquarePants content into the football game. And this year, SpongeBob is bringing some more Nickelodeon friends along. The Nickelodeon Slimetime event will once again be a part of Madden NFL 22's The Yard mode, making this the second year running for the annual event. The Yard is a for-fun mode featuring 6v6 matches, unique destinations, fun cosmetics, and special challenges. As part of the Nickelodeon Slime Time event, The Yard's field will be slathered in green slime and other fun Nickelodeon stadium flair. Challenges featuring SpongeBob SquarePants, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Rugrats will be also available. There may even be some special cosmetics on hand.RELATED: Madden NFL 22 Still Plagued By Game-Breaking Franchise Save GlitchSlimetime will be crossing over into the real NFL playoffs, too. Nickelodeon will have a special NFL playoff live broadcast again, much like it did in 2021. This year's highlighted game will be the 49ers vs. Cowboys matchup in Dallas. The show starts on Sunday, January 16, at 4:30 PM ET. Expect lots of kid commentary and slime graphics, not to mention 82 gallons of actual slime being brought to the game.

Before the weekend arrives, Madden NFL 22 has another major event to conclude. Wrapping up today is Madden NFL 22's Ultimate Wild Card 22 tournament. The winner, which will be decided between Henry, SpamminButtons, K3rryQ, and Wesley, will earn a $75,000 prize, with the runners-up earning between $25,000 and $35,000.

Today also marks the start of Madden NFL 22's Campus Legends mode adding two new teams. Both Alabama and Ohio State will join a list of 10 previously released teams, including LSU, University of Texas, USC, University of Florida, and the University of Oregon.

Suffice to say, there's a lot going on in Madden NFL 22 this weekend. Nickelodeon Slimetime officially starts today, though the special NFL Wild Card broadcast will be airing on Nickelodeon on Sunday. It's a great way for young fans for both the NFL and Nickelodeon to enjoy both hobbies at the same time.

Madden NFL 22 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
